Ive been trapping coyotes on a large ranch & have had great results with 42 coyotes in 5 weeks trapping part time as my schedule allows. This was my 1st winter to trap in over 10 years and am thrilled to be back in the game. After spending a lot on commercial baits & lures & running low, I started making up my own paste bait that I had good success with years ago. With the nearly constant wind here in SW Oklahoma (30-50mph gust common), my paste bait dries out very quickly. I know there are a lot of things I could add to help with the drying out issue but I would appreciate any advice. When fresh, it's very effective for the 1st day if if windy, it needs freshened up too often.

I'm no expert but my first thought would be lanolin or glycerin. You could also try fish oil, skunk oil or Beaver tail oil but that would change the odor slightly, but could be for the better.

Anything you add (grease/oil) to keep it from drying out is going reduce the amount of odor in the air. You may be better off to just freshen it up every few days. Just because something "dries out" doesn't mean its not still putting odor in the air.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

I'm thinking the same thing.
