This is probably a dumb question, but here goes. Does beaver activity at castor mound sets stop when the weather gets cold(around 0 deg.f)? I was having good success when the weather was a little warmer, but now we've had a cold spell and I'm coming up empty. Thank you in advance!

p.s. I'm trapping on an open small river using drowning sets

Not that I am aware of as I have never experienced that problem. I suspect you have caught the beaver using that area of the river or any remaining have moved to a new location.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Not all beaver are attracted to castor, at least not to where they will leave the water and into your trap to inspect it. Try some different types of sets, with a non-castor lure.

Well, I tried a blind set in the same area away from any scent that I had been using yesterday, today I checked and got a 65 lb'er! Thanks for the advice!

Second, there are no dumb questions, except the 1 you didn't ask for some reason.

Dad taught me early on, asking questions prevents DUMB MISTAKES that could have been prevented.

So change your mindset and ASK AWAY!..we will help.

The opposite it true in the south. Typically ,The hotter it gets the less catches with castor lure. ( like over 70 degrees)
