If I just want to catch fox and/or coyote, are there techniques I can use to avoid catching raccoons?

If your on location for Canines your on location for coons. Coon remakes are hot for fox and coyote. Even at low prices coon pay for alot of gas. Any lure/bait/urine that attract canines attracts coon too. Trying to avoid coon will hurt your canine catch, been there done that..

Common sense catches alot of fur..
Pay homage to all you harvest..

Pretty much any coon that comes across the set is probably gonna work it. One thing , find where the yotes move through in more open areas. If you have a lot of them in the area, the smaller game will want to hang closer to cover.

Most of coons we get at coyote sets are nice big ones too.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Anyone have any idea of what raccoon population densities typically are? I'm wondering if I can at least maybe catch x amount raccoons I can turn that spot where I can expect to catch more fox than coons. I really want to to catch fox and coyote but it seems coons get to the trap before anything else. I was wondering if there was a fox attractant scent that would be more likely to draw in a fox than a coon and at least up my odds for catching a fox.

Fairly easy to avoid with snares. Not many coons get caught in 10+" high loops.

I’ve caught coon in coyote sets so far from what you would call coon habitat, that it makes you wonder where the heck they came from. I set a heavy pan trying to avoid both coon and fox. The 4# pan eliminates most fox but I still catch a couple of big coon a year. At least they skin easy !

Keep your traps in the truck.

If it's a good K-9 location, make multiple sets. One you clean out the coon and possum, you can start catching the K9 more regularly.

The only place I can avoid raccoon is when I set 20 yards out in a harvested field

Flat set with gland and curiosity lures only, no food. The only way I can avoid them. But not every coyote is going to go out there so some sets are still where the coons will get to them

Every day is a gift from GOD, don't waste it!!

If they have plenty of food, give them something interesting to smell

Best thing I can say is-
#1- try to clean them out first.
#2- make multiple sets.
#3- if on good canine location, set multiple sets for canines and multiple sets for coons.
They do help pay for gas....

If you can snare you can avoid most coon. Just keep your snares up off the ground about 12" and you will avoid most coon.
Other then that I can't think of any other way.

x2 on multiple sets per location. Have caught coons and coyotes within feet of each other.

Try to catch the coons with DPs before they get to your K9 sets.
