With RTS you don't have to hook the spring eyes. Apply about 1/2 way between eyes and coil on the spring. Then you don't have as much distance to compress.

I bought the cheaper version. That pair didn't last a week and I'm a small, small timer. Really good customer service as MTS took them back without issue. I'm sure I didn't set more than three 330s when they stopped compressing all of the way. The RTS is still pretty high on the wish list.

I've been using 6' of mule tape with a loop. Mule tape is the flat rope that they pull cable, wire or fiber through pipes. It's made of slick synthetic fiber that doesn't stretch. Better than most rope and will fit in a t-shirt pocket.
