Do some of you find that a catch can cause the pan tension to change in certain footholds?

Yes.So can rust.A waxed trap and lock nuts can help but it's a good idea to be prepared to adjust in the field if need be.I don't have it happen very often.I have a lot of MB550's and it's a non-issue with them.

AJE that's why a true Montgomery style trap is nice once tension is set it stays for a very long time .

That`s why all my traps have paws I trip pans on them.I run mostly #4 dukes with paws I trip pans and stainles rod dogs on them.
