I modified a few of my DP's to push pull trigger last season. What I didn't like about the trigger even before the mod was the movement left and right of the trigger. I felt that a coon could possibly crowd it to the side and steal the bait. I liked the idea of the circle triggers and this is what I came up with. I drilled a hole in the trigger just big enough for a 8D finish nail. Then I peened the edge of trigger with a center punch to lock it in there. To get rid of the side to side slop I replaced the pin with a 10x24 screw and added couple of pieces of 1/4 steel line for bushings. With everything installed looking in the dp the cross is in the center of the tube and very little side to side movement.

I just did 7 of them yesterday (Dukes), with Sudden Valley hardware. What a pain in the arse. I'll never do that again...

2 dozen Li-Grizz, 7 dozen Duke DPs and NO Modification to them, just bait them and put a cap on top of them and when the cap is off of them there is a coon in them, what is so hard about doing that.

Thanks for the quick tutorial Illini and just ignore Mouseys’ smart aleck remarks. She should keep them to herself. I wonder what is so hard about that.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Thanks
I knew I would get some feedback no hurt feelings here. I had a couple of coons that would just clean out a DP even paste bait behind the trigger it would be scooped out from one side. I would set a 1 1/2 duke and pick them up.
But I do like to tinker by the time its all said and done I'll probably have all my dogless traps with dogs and the dog traps dogless

Same reason I did it J. I much prefer a push/pull.

How did you bend the new dogs on? I put mine in the vice, and squeezed/crimped with a vice grip. Seems you have to get the crimped end more round, instead of just squashing it, or it won't set down low enough.

How was the finish on your triggers? The reason I said mine was such a pain, the fit to finish on the Sudden Valley was so horrible that I spent more time filing and sanding the sharp and rough surfaces and corners, than I did swapping the parts. Like 'em now, tho. smile

Your just modifying the stock parts on the dp no need to take the dog off. Remove the trigger put it in a vice bend the hook sideways. When you reinstall it the bolt hole goes toward the back of the trap toward the springs if you install it the other way it restricts the throw. On the dog you grind or file a notch in it. Just make sure you do it on the correct side. Here the vid I used or do a search for modifying duke dp coon traps
Modifying Dog Proof coon traps
Even if a person doesn't convert one to push pull I feel having the cross bar on the trigger give them one more thing to fiddle with and trip the trap.

Good stuff illinideer.

https://trapperman.com/forum/ubbthreads....ay_#Post2641906

My post from 2011. Since trying them I found no advantage to push/pull triggers over pull only for me, but still good info for those that want the push/pull triggers.

I haven't had issues with the stock Duke, but I like your creativity and craftsmanship.
