No 1st hand knowledge, but I googled to see what they are and was taken to MTP website. The discription says at the bottom that they work with 3/8”. FYI

Sorry...I just reread your post. You weren’t asking if they worked with 3/8”. Looks like neat setup at any rate.

I think MTP is probably the best place to get them. That's where I bought some.

I've never tried them on chain. I wonder what the benefit of using them on a chain drowner would be versis a rod.

Work well on chain —double loop —prefer #3 but #2 works.most of my beaver trapping is on deep water, easier for me to carry in an empty sand bag with 12’ of chain.
Also use chain and Bauer locks along woods roads to get target animal out of sight.

They do work on 3/8 rebar. A word of warning on 3/8 rebar, it bends like a bow with big beaver that decide to stop and fight half way down, the bottom end can be pulled out and you may spend an hour or so looking for the rig & beaver. Not that I'd know first hand of course. blush

Not as bad as I could be, not as good as I should be.

Just caught my first beaver Monday using this setup with 1/2" rebar. Beaver was probably between 55-60lbs. No Problem. But I made sure the end was firmly in the mud.

10' stick of half-inch rebar set up this way with trap already attached to slider is, IMO, a great way to address those close spots where you can bring the truck or boat nearby.

Indeed, if you don't secure the end well.
I've been using 3/8" smooth rods, made and sold hundreds, since '03, and only 1 guy, 1 time, told me of a pull out...and he said he KNEW when he 'set the rod" it just didn't feel good.

I have never caught any over 75 lbs though...2@75, 2@73, 2@71 over the years.

Keep in mind, too, that some bottoms may not be conducive to getting the rod secure either!

I use 10' of 1/2" rebar and have had the bottom end dislodged a few times but have not lost a beaver because of it. Only once have I had one get the rod twisted around where they could reach the bank and be alive when I got there. I try to get the top end staked so they can not turn it but sometimes the mud and muck is just not firm enough and I will run an extension cable to something solid to make sure I do not lose the entire rig if the staking does not hold.

Had a 58 lb male pull the end on a 1/2" rod once. I had cross-staked at the bank end so it held firm... But he bent that 1/2" rebar into a horseshoe.

I brought that beaver home and skinned him... I imagine the neighbors got quite a chuckle out of me wrestling that rebar back to (nearly) straight using the crotch of a tree in the front yard.
