I have some old #4 double long spring traps that were my dad's that I was thinking of using for beaver but the pans are loose and I cannot figure how to put some pan tension on them so the pans don't wobble. Can this be done or should I just buy some MB750's.

Try bending the dog up a little. That should help some. But those DLS and jumps have terrible pan wobble. Only other option is install some PIT pans on them. That will cure the wobble.

I have good luck putting them in a vice a squeezing the slot shut it will eliminate side wobble for awhile but not forever! I like filing miles triggers on old longs it also helps eliminate side wobble and give positive pan tension

Set it on an anvil and give it a couple of wacks with a hammer to close down the slot. Don't get carried away till you get the hang of it. That and a miles trigger and you will have a great trap.

I can't believe that cop put me in the back seat when I clearly called shotgun.

golf ball I like your approach that appears to be pretty permanent fix! I enjoy rehabbing those old long sprigs it makes for a enjoyable summer project, base plating ,laminating and a few big pans but not many! that one taught me a valuable lesson three pairs of vise grips! Hence the warped lamination

I had a rain day that I spent in the shop, learned a little on this one and will do it some different next time. I will be looking at the next FTA or NTA show for different pans to try. A pan with two flanges one on each side, that would fit over the cross frame would be much better !

My first rainy day project turned out bad lol you can tell by looking at that trap above warped lamination off centered pan the only thing that turned out good was the base plate and the miles trigger lol and the chain! That one made me slow down and use my head for something besides a hat rack!
