I don't mind Duke's 330s, with 1 exception. The safetys are terrible. Other than buying a different brand, has anyone found a good way to modify the safety on these.

They are loose and flimsy and don't like to stay locked in place.

I found the safeties are hard to deal with on their 220s also. Some are ok and some are to short they seem. I use them after a little work. Again I use them in high traffic areas so if I happen to loose one it doesn't hurt the back side so much. The traps work fine though.

Just buy the RK safety's from MTP if you don't like em.

All safeties are a pain in the butt at times. But sounds like you got a bad batch there.

Wrap annealed 14 gauge wire around the spring arm and then around the safety itself

As my bud AIX said...Modify them with 14 ga wire, as shown in the Archives, so they stay put, just like Belisle. no more flopping safeties!!!!!!

I thought everyone did this !??!

The difference may be you are using setters. It is easier for some, and safer to set the trap, if the safety's move easily.

NOt me. I like the floppy ones better than the ones that don't move easily. But they all drive me nuts at some point.

I agree with Calvin. I prefer the loose safeties. I don't use gauntlets very often but I struggle to get the stiff safeties off while wearing them. I can rake my finger across the back of the floppy safeties and easily take them off

A piece of 14 ga wire wrapped around the jaws when set works for me. I keep mine set year round. When the set is complete. reach over the top of trap and snip with wire cutters and remove. Should trap fire, all you get is a face full of water or mud. If setting deep, cut wires first then lower into position. I had an ole timer show me this and it works for me. Safeties do come off, even on Belisle. Sarge

I hated dealing with safeties while wearing guantlets! I got a pair of those big game gut gloves and now its no big deal. They fit skin tight! And so far are super tuff! But I prefer the floppy safeties over the tight ones now! But then again I use a secondary safety on top of the others. I found they speed up setting you don't have to be as gentle with the trap. If it fires no big deal you wont be abel to get the secondary safety off! Lately I don't even bother with the safetys on the springs

Wrapping wire around the safeties helps for sure. I wrote about it in an article maybe twenty years ago I guess. In time the trap wire I had got brittle and rusted as you would expect, then broke. When Belisle came out with their safety it was a God sent. Standard safeties would often fall off when I didn't know it. Then I'd get careless and get caught when the trap fired. The Belisles stay in place so you know where you are at. Couldn't love anything much more.

If you are having issues use a clip on safety and problem solved. That will give you a back up. I see a lot of guys get very complacent with the safety’s and that seems like when they get caught. I’m not a huge fan of any of the safety’s on the 330’s. I just always assume that all my traps are hot when handeling them, like a loaded gun.
