Seen that awhile back. It is a neat story. Like walking into a Zane Grey scene.

Sooooo.......I'm thinking that the moose carcass should not have been in as much of one piece as it is in the picture. The other critters would have chewed up, carried off, etc. etc. So the only pieces left would be large ones. Skull,s skull and antler, you know what I mean.
The scene was discovered in 1923. Locals say it might be from a trapper that disappeared 18 years ago. What is the likelihood of that moose ribcage and neck still being in one piece after 18 years? What were the bears, cougars, wolves, coyotes, foxes, even the birds, doing those 18 years?

All the bones, even the smaller ones, are laying on top of the dead grass. Looks like they were placed there just prior to taking the picture. The lower jaw bones of the moose are separated and the upper one in the picture appears to be balanced on a stick. It wouldn't set there long in real life. With the amount of deterioration showing on the antlers they appear to be considerably older than the rib cage and back bone of the moose. Looks like they came from two different animals. Have to agree with MT. Fake news even in 1923. smile

That was Joe Cosley's stomping grounds ,but he expired 400 miles north of Prince Albert. Is the rifle in the photo ? I did not see it.

I've seen that photo here and there for as long as I can remember. Whatever the story, it's a neat pic.

It’s possible that someone gathered the bones together before the photographer took the pic. It certainly doesn’t look natural anywhere that scavengers would occur.

Maybe he had a heart attack while skinning.

A guy here was caught in an avalanche back in the day. The people didnt have a practical way to chip out the packed snow and they were forced to wait until the spring thaw. They found him and all his dogs, gear in May. Heads up to muskrat411, avalanche happened in Black Mountain Creek.

That is a really cool picture. makes you sit and ponder thinking back when it was one person, the wilderness and
fate. i bet we all wish one time or another we was back in that era. (Except the final ending)

Staged photo.
Compare that to your boneyards on the trapline-no where near authentic.
