Is there some major difference between the 2 and 4 coil that I am missing?? Seems the cost increases approx $4 per trap going to 4coil and normally a set if extra coils is less than a $1.

Are all of the offset jaws the “forged offset jaws”?? I see some advertised as “offset jaw” and others “forged offset jaw”.

Is the 5 13/16” jaw spread measured on inside???

5 13/16 length ways. 5 3/8 cross ways. Forged off set and plain off set are the same. 2 coiled model uses strong music wire. Plenty strong. Held more than one lion and wolf with them. 4 coil later after they weaken..

I didn't know if they sprinkled lucky pixie dust on the 4coils or added anything else beyond the extra coils.

I don't know from experience but looking at the pictures it looks like they have full size springs not just the booster springs.

If FOJ's and plain OS are the same why does FOJ cost more per trap then the plain.

Just looked at F&T Vic 1.75 FOJ and OS. $1 more per trap.

Monty 3 only has 2 jaw options. Forged offset or standard closed. If they are referred to as offset than it is foj. Forged offset jaw. Have no idea on 1.75. I don't use them and thought this thread was about the #3.

In my opinion the 2 coil Monty's are plenty strong, no need to 4 coil. However, I have bought some 4 coil as that what was in stock and it appears as though the coils they use for 4 coils are not the same as the 2 coil version, the 2 coil version has stronger individual coilsprings. On my 4 coil traps I removed two of the factory springs and replaced them with helper springs and they were about right, close to the standard 2 coil. I hope that makes sense.

The Montgomery 3# and #4 are my go to traps, I have tried most traps, except the Cadillac traps, and I am selling all others for coyotes and fox. My only question about them now is whether I should be base-plating and laminating my new ones. I have previously, but I do not know if it is worth my time.

I like the off set forage cast. The no. 3 size trap the JC conner reg 4 coil system will fit over the spring pin of a reg 2 coil spring trap with out extra spring pin length. I did the same add the extra springs to the 4 and have not lost any of them either.
I put Sudden Valley base plate and swivel on them made them a Super trap not just a Great trap.Very fast light weight and will hold anything I have to catch. And file in more pan tension as well. Very foot friendly. The factory spring pins are weak in the 4 coil system they put on. I run mine for 3 yrs. before need a booster spring.
