Does anyone use it and have you found it useful for determining land ownership and GMU's?

With out a doubt it is awesome. I downloaded the maps for our trip (route) from Willow to the Bearing Sea.
I would not be without it again.
My iphone always had me spot on with its gps and showed me on the satellite imagery I had downloaded. Many times I used it to find where we were in relation to the iditarod trail.

The imagery is way better than google earth.
When downloading for use off line you have the option for three different sized maps. 5 miles wide (high resolution), 10 miles wide (medium) and 150 miles wide. (Low resolution) I used the Low resolution and it was fine for navigation purposes. One of the best $29 I have spent this year!!

Tell me more please. Where do I find this? Is it a phone app, or what??

Just go online to
https://www.onxmaps.com
You can try it out free for like a week.
Then you have to buy a one state min subscription for $29 for a year.
With the same login you can access it online from a computer or using an app on your phone.
Shows land ownership boundaries and the part I like your location over a satellite map imagery.

Thanks FT. I was trying to decide between the card or the subscription. I'll go with the subscription based upon your post.

I hedged my bets and have both just in case the battery dies in my GPS or on my phone.
Just like up there around here we have a lot of places where cell service is only a dream, and sat phone service is as poor.
Stay Safe out there !

The GPS on your phone works without cell service and the maps are stored in memory.
Operating temperature range and ruggedness are my only concerns with a cell phone.

iPhones do terribile in the cold. I always keep mine in my chest pocket. But it is not something your going to strap on a machine to watch the trail.
I guess I don't understand the card option. Are you talking memory stick for the gps?
That would be cool also.
But to have the equivalent of google earth with gps capabilities on my phone that is always with me was awesome.
I did keep a small 12 inverter plugged into my skidoo to keep my phone charged.

Maybe this will be of value for you guys. I'm in no way in the extreme temps you guys are but I keep one of these handy all the time.
Well the link didn't work. Jackery Giant. 12000mah/44.4wh. For $26 it will do a lot.

Thank you for reminding me that on x maps doesn't need cell service to function I'm still pretty new to the smart phones, come to think of it I have a battery charger or external battery similar to what you have also. It's been a challenging winter for me I didn't get a chance to do much besides staying alive thankfully it's getting better every day now.

Just curious, if you know that or just think that. Just ran a Google Earth test they have imagery from 10-5-2017 for a town near me and it's pretty detailed. There are only a few sources for imagery & Google Earth is pretty current. They only way I know to get better is to do it yourself.

Well lets just say that it is not imagery of cities I look at. ;0)
They are usually very good and quite up to date. You won't find that to be true in much of bush Alaska. There is some good sat imagery.

Here is some shots of the lower Yukon. Some loss of resolution happened (a lot actually) with the resizing that Tman does. But I think you can see that there is no comparison on what you want to use in the bush. Most areas seemed to be covered very well.

Onx shot of lower yukon area

Similar shot using Google earth.

Look like the exact same imagery to me. One does seem to be streaming it at a higher resolution. I may have heard that google streams different resolutions for different areas.

You bet. Much of the bush just doesn't have photographs. Has been a pain for years. I was so excited when I saw what looked like the whole state done with photographs.

Birds eye imagery for Garmin is WAY better up here than google earth as well.

For years I used actual air photos of my trapline. Taken from 5000 feet, the negatives perfectly overlaid an inch-to-the-mile topo sheet. Expensive but very handy before the technology available now.
