I don't do more than A few mole jobs a year. Started one this week, which is earlier than I have ever started before

Anyway got this tiny mole. At first I thought it was a shrew. But then I looked at its feet

What say you?

Without better pictures or holding it,the critter looks more like a small vole rather than a shrew to me. Check the teeth; voles will have mouse/rat like teeth, shrews have teeth made for killing prey and eating meat. In the links below, you can view descriptions and pictures of the various shrews and voles found in Michigan.

Voles fall in the Order Rodentia (rodents)- http://www.biokids.umich.edu/critters/Arvicolinae/

Shrews are in the Order Soricomorpha (insectivores)- http://www.biokids.umich.edu/critters/Soricidae/

I don't think it's a shrew.

After looking at pictures of shrews and voles I'm sure this is a small mole. It's feet and no eyes.

Just never caught one so small

This is certainly a shrew. Sometimes they move into mole tunnels. http://www.wildlifecontrolhelpline.com/wildlife/moles.html
