I'm looking to trap skunks. Does anyone know good locations for skunks? What is a good bait for skunks? What are good size steel traps, live traps, and conibears for skunks. How should I store skunk essence? Anyone used a 110 conibear for skunks?

Dry culverts, abandoned buildings and rock piles are a good place to start. A friend has caught 100s of skunk in one season and he swears by Jamison's Fireball for skunks.

Thanks for the info! In case your interested Minnesota Trapline Products is buying skunk essence right now for $15 per ounce. You might get a chunk of money if you have a lot of skunks.

They eat a lot of different junky scrap food. I don't think they are fussy.

Eggs in any form (raw, cooked, boiled, etc.) are very attractive to skunks, so is a handful of mashed nightcrawlers or grubs, and believe it or not a cheap can of plain old Campbells baked beans dumped in back of a cage or pour some in a DP is a good skunk taker if we are targeting them. The baked beans are not as attractive to cats either.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Did an experiment this year with hard boiled eggs vs hot dogs in tube traps, out of 12 skunks 8 were caught on hot dogs the rest on hard boiled eggs. Both work but the hot dogs just better. Really i need a bigger sample to be sure. For storing essence i use the boston round bottles with plastic tops. the metal tops will be destroyed by the acids. Wax dip the tops when full, hardly any smell.

Have a place to extract and store the essence before you start. You are going to get some smell no matter how careful you are.

I’ve used corks (not rubber stoppers or plastic) to keep the essence in my glass bottles. It doesn’t hurt to electrical tape the corks for added security before shipping.
