Guys a pet peeve of mine is having the chain on conis where they come factory. I would like to have a loop around all three or the entire spring to
hook the chain to rather than how they come factory. I have tried some tear drops but they are too big. Just want them to fit around whole spring with little play, any advice?

Cable.

Cable loop as tight or loose as you like with as long of a tether as you want.

If you prefer chain, you could make a cable loop that has a trap swivel on the terminal end, and that will let you easily attach chain using a J-hook

Every trap I buy gets the chain scrapped. I much rather cable.

Plumbers tape, also called pipe hanging tape. Its a strip of metal about 5/8" wide, comes in a roll and has holes in it. Cut off what you want, match the holes and put a j-hook through it.

I put tear drop rings and swivels on all my conibears, then a "S" hook to a cable extention.

How about a cold shut or a lap link or a quick link?

I use a short length of #2 machine chain thru the spring eye to attach a universal swivel, then add preferred length of same chain to another universal for the anchor point.

Use some muscle and work the chain around the spring so it is on the center coil where it belongs. Problem solved.

I make steel rings like sleepy creek traps have. Nice setup that gives another swivel point.

I ve been cutting 1.1/4" black iron pipe in a chopsaw a 1/4 " thick cut a it in the middle open it putting chain and spot weld it shut. makes a good trap ring thats fairly strong and relatively cheap. I like the ring at the end of the chain. but I add 6' of chain I swivel it were I cut the factory chain to extend. The ring makes a nice spot to t-stake! No reason a guy couldn't put it over the trap sprigs as well!

Why go through all that work when you can just use a lap link.

^^. Cable and snap hook or link is quick and efficient.
