I may have misspoke on this.Montgomery didn't make round jawed in the dogless style but they may have called all their footholds step ins whether they were dog less or dog on.Been years since I looked at anything Montgomery. On the price I never saw any 4-coiled but I have saw some 2-coils for $10.00 a piece.Don't know if they got that price or not.Don't know the condition of them either.

I don't think your out of line with the price, but those of us that remember them will probably thinking the 4 coil thing ridicules. These traps came from the factory super strong,I remember guys saying they wouldn't buy them because they were way overdone.4 coiling them won't improve the price any.

If you bought a dozen for $4o you got one heck of a deal, thats only a little over $3 a trap.I haven't paid a lot of attention to these traps because I used to have pile of them I bought new and for some reason never did like them, but I do remember them being priced at $10 a trap.I wouldn't count on $40 a dozen being a standard price. That is a unusual buy.

Sold all 3 dozen of mine lamed and base plated for 75 a dozen 2 years ago. Paid 40 ish a dozen when they first came out years ago. Glad they are gone...

I agree, it was a good buy. I got them at an auction sale, no other trappers there.

Due to Montana making a very similar trap, the used price on the #2 Montgomery round jaws isn't as strong as it once was. If you get $8 ea. you'd be doing very well IMO. This based upon them being in very good user condition. I agree the 4-coils ad very little value. $90/dozen would be what I'd ask, and I'd take the first offer close to that. Hadn't thought of that.Good call. That was one trap that really didn't live up to my expectations.I loved the round jaw 11\2 Montgomery and couldn't wait to get some 2's.Couldn't get rid of them fast enough after using them a few seasons.I remember having one jaw breaking at tip,and one frame had a crack that eventually split.I don't know if those two soured me on the rest or what.I will say I love the No.2 dogless Montgomery,as in the square jaw originals.Wish I could find more of those.

I lost a bunch of coyotes in the #2 RJs, the 1.5s held more. Even 4 coiled. Great for red fox though.

I have a few Monty #2 RJ's that I got in a trade. Although I haven't used them yet they seem like good, well built traps. Strong springs and a heavier trap compared to others. These are stock traps no mods.

There It Is In a nut shell. The rounded jaw faces were the problem.

Besides the #2 montys, I have a dz. new #2 Montana pros that have the rounded jaws too. I see a lot of filing in my future. I have some 1.5 Montanas that have the same jaw that'll need it too.
Would you file as much of the jaw as possible or just in the center of the jaws?

Would you file as much of the jaw as possible or just in the center of the jaws? Personally I wouldn't file them unless you are going to use them in the water for coons. If you're intended catch is fox and coyotes the rounded jaws aren't an issue. Once you get above a pad on the foot they hold just fine. That filing will GREATLY decrease any resale value as well.
