That depends entirely on what you want to use it for. Varmint , predators, home defense, truck gun range toy ???

My 1.5-6x is just right for my point and shoot style of shooting. I don't need 6x inside 300 yards .

I don't trust bore sighters , the smith at Gander mountain maid me not trust.
only ever let the smith mount a scope once , and it was the farthest off I have ever had any scope and it was a muzzle loader so it took the most to get on it was also before I knew the math
when they assemble scopes some times the scope will be all the way one side or the other so I run it all the way up then count to the bottom of the adjustment and come back to the middle then do the same for left right then shoot at a 2 foot by 3 foot sheet of card board with a 1 inch square target dot in the middle at 25 yards sometimes I shoot twice just to make sure they are the same spot
on rare occasion something will be so far off that the bullet does not impact the cardboard then I move the cardboard to 10 yards just multiply by 8 for rough figuring then move back to 25 yards it ok for you to be 2-3 inches low at 10 yards the sight on an AR is typically between 2.5 and 3 inches above bore axis
if you can't get it on paper at 10 yards something is not strait , a mount is crooked or something or if it is elevation your going to need shims.
once I am on the cardboard
I measure how far up/down and Left/right in inches say I am 5 right and 10 low multiply each by 4 (8 if at 10 yards) because a minute of angle is 1 inch at 100 yards , 1/2 inch at 50 yards and 1/4 inch at 25 yards 5x4=20 minutes left correction and 10x4=40 come up 40 minutes , fire again this generally has me very close if your scope has numbered minutes it is easy to just turn to , if not check is it a 1/4 moa adjustment if it is multiply by 4 again and count the clicks 4x40=160 clicks
I get left right perfect at 25 yards and make sure I am withing an inch low at 25 yards then move to 100 yards

The reason I'm asking is I've tried several scopes and mounts and I run out of elevation. I can't get close to zero with my bore site. I would pull the upper and look through the barrel and then the scope to see if you get the same results. If you don't have a gun vice to put the upper in just cut a V in a each side of a card board box to hold the upper. Are you using the same mounts when you swap scopes? Maybe try a different set or take the set off and put it back on.

I have to say that I may actually like my primary arms scope that i have on one of mine. If i bought another its hard to beat the price vs features. I have the 1-8x and sort of think i should have got the 1-6x for $100 less and been just as happy. I like the reticle. I like the illumination feature. Its pretty close to a true 1x so close range and running shots are very easy. Scope is clear enough especially from 4x and down. Nice field of view. SO far its held zero being beat around in my truck. I used the one piece leupold mount with mine. I think it was a mk2 series mount.
