Did anyone catch Mighty Rivers tonight? It was on the Mississippi River and concentrated on the Asian Carp. I saw where they ate some and said it was good. I have used too much for crawfish bait so I swore off eating it.

I have heard others say it was good. Has anyone tried it?

I've heard they taste ok, especially smoked.

They sure are a nuisance though.

I used to can them right along with common carp then I started to notice how white the silver carp (jumpers) meat is compared to common carp in the jar. Now I actually prefer the jumpers. Have not noticed a difference in taste between the two when canned, both are delicious.

I know a guy that used to net 1000s of pounds, and would sell them to the asian markets in St. Louis Mo. just looking at a boat load of them turned my stomach. Now I may try them, and see for myself.

Saw a guy on Nav Pool 26, Alton, Ill that put a piece of chain link fence across the gunnels of his boat to stop them from hitting him, and heard that some guy was killed up near Nav Pool 24 by one. Not funny getting smacked in the head by a 40 lb fish at 30 mph.

Same bone structure as a common carp I believe. For bait, I use a hatchet to chop them up , as they are tough to cut up into chunks. For catfishing, I fillet the scales off, leaving the skin, and fillet the meat off behind the ribs. The skin is quite tough, and stay on a circle hook really well. A friend caught a 90 lb. blue cat last year on asian carp, in the Mo. river.
