This is the new rifle I am having built by Jason at Hunt the Distance for my 14 year old grandson..It is a 300 win mag built on a fully blueprinted Remington 700 Ultramag action that has the bolt fluted ,skeletonized and bolt handle threaded.... I used the ultramag action so he could still load his bullets long and have them feed from the magazine... It has a 27 inch CA carbon wrapped barrel with the CA titanium slayer adjustable sideport break... It will have a Timney Trig
ger and be set into a CA light weight stock... Finally the scope will be a 6-24 Vortex hst with 20 moa ring/bases...

Clarification .....Guess the Remington long actions are all the same for mag length 3.665... I don't know where or why I thought they were 3.85. We are going to start with the 168gr Bergers to start...Dave

I'm going to assume the CA stands for Christensen Arms? Dad bought one of their carbon barreled rifles in .300wm. I forget which model, but it is a tack driver. If I'm not mistaken it's on a 700 action.

Yes CA stands for Christensen Arms.... Since they started their new wrap design they seem to be producing just as good and accurate barrels as Proof or any other company...I think in the beginning it was hit and miss as to getting a great barrel or just an ok barrel or even a sub MOA barrel. I am stuck at home allot do to health problems.. The fun for me was researching and finding all the parts instead of just sitting here wasting air. Dave

Hope he is a big strong boy. Couldn't pay me to put that thing against my old chopped up shoulders. Would like a 7-08 like that however.

I hope your grandson is a big boy, I would have to think that barrel is awfully light and is going to be a kicker when you touch it off.
Looks sweet though, Your grandson is a lucky young man. I am looking to be adopted if you need more grand kids Ha Ha!

Shot a .300 WSM they did on a Browning A-Bolt. Muzzle brakes are an amazing thing.

This gun will end up being around 8.5lbs... The CA Slayer break is said to be one of the most efficient brakes available for recoil... but is extra loud for the shooter compared to some other brakes out there... He will be shooting 168gr Bergers instead of the 215gr to help with recoil but I expect this rifle and brake combination to make it around a 308 recoil... My grandson was always the shortest in his class at school but has finally sprouted... but is still willow thin.. He has shot since he was 3 years old and shoots my 30-378 accumark and my 338 edge with 300 gr bullets at 3008fps both have brakes on them. So I think this gun should fit him well.... The barrel didn't save anything in weight but made the rifle balance and moved the forearm weight back to the action. He had trouble stabilizing the forearm weight of the accumark or sendero profile guns..I would bet recoil would be ok for almost anyone... If it was an unbraked 6.0 lb gun it would probably kick like you fellows are thinking...Stock is suppose to come monday... I will post pics of completed gun and how it shots as it all comes together... Dave

Breaks are great for shooting paper... Deafening in hunting situations though.

Good luck with your build.

My 220 Swift started as a Model 700 VSSF with the 26" bull barrel. I sent the barrel to Christensen as well and was very happy. I put mine into a Bansner ultralight stock and it balances perfectly. After building walnut rifle stocks the synthetic stock job was a lot of fun. Pillar bedded it and had it painted by a guy I found nearby.

I tuned the original trigger and it worked fine but I thought I was going to have to go with a Timney at first. Still me favorite for fox and roe deer here.

Lucky grandson.

Pete

Although I can understand people affliction to muzzle breaks. I believe the loud noise and having to use hear protection is way out weighed by the recoil reduction... The old I get the more I appreciate them... The first gen 300 rum I had I was bruised and sore for 2 weeks after sighting it in for 15 shoots... I had a Fat (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) break installed and could shoot it 50 times a day after that without the damage...
