I just read an article in our paper about a local State Representative is entering a bill to allow hunters and fisherman to be mentors to young people. This got me thinking of how would I go about offering something similar to local youths that might want to follow a trapper for the day on their trap line to see what trapping is all about. Two year ago I spent a lot of time and energy into trying to find a young person that wanted to learn how to trap to go help me during the trapping season, they learn how to trap and I get some help with the work. I was unsuccessful in finding anyone interested. Hopefully, this new approach of going with a trapper for a day might have more appeal. In the past, I contacted our schools and every group or club for young people in my areas with no success. I also put out my idea out on this forum and my state trapping associations forum with no success.
Has anyone ever tried this. Any suggestions on how I present this offer to my community. Am I taking on unwanted liability doing this. Any suggestions would help.

Under 21, i suggest a parent/legal guardian come along

4H and FFA and Boy Scouts is a good place to start.
My buddy "auctions" that type of activity at DU and QDMA and QU and TU banquets, to help them raise $$.
He offers "weekend with a trapper" and coordinates with a hunt club of some kind that wants predators removed.
Club provides housing, at least, too.

Contact your state Trapper’s Association. I’ll bet they have a program of some sort in place already.

Be cautious in this endeavor. I am being brutally honest here. No matter how innocent your intent, it may appear to be a “come on” by a pedophile, especially contacting schools. Remember the old saying “No good deed goes unpunished”. Not just too much liability, too much risk! Definitely age 18 or 21 or above and no exceptions.

Maybe you could find a woman about age 23 who might be interested. That could work out very very well.
