I’m looking for additives for dry cat food for DP bait. I’ve heard that regular fish oil is very bitter and not edible to coon. Is salmon oil a better choice or would I be better off with jack Mack mixed with vegetable oil?

Depends on what you get. Shellfish is artificial and very bitter. Most of the natural ones arent a problem.

A little Kool-Aid powder mixed with your cat food works too. Or, some of the oil from the Jack Mack container.

stick with dry stuff like Jello powder or Kool aid and a few drops of some oils

wet dp baits gum up the works and are a pain to clean out

I have had better luck with salmon oil than regular fish oil, but I mix mine up a bit to give them a little different smell every so often.

I will take a pepsi bottle and fill with dry cat food and add just enough drops of vanilla extract to give it the vanilla smell. don't want it wet.
I also will take the cat food and add just enough liquid smoke to do the same thing.

I have caught many coon by simply using the cheapest dry cat food I can find and giving it a shot of salmon oil once it's placed in the bottom of a DP trap.

have you tried spoonbill oil, its a much stronger fish oil smell, and slightly different than what you might expect. lots of bait makers are using it in their K 9 baits. It also last a long time.
