In North Dakota I need to run a BAD, is it ok to run 285# BAD on a #1 ram... I can't find factory snares with them I have 1/16 1x19 cable on hand just curious if the BAD is ok on a RAM

They'd work just fine.

Here's an example of what we use in Saskatchewan

Would a kill pole be just as effective over that of a ram device? You would have a staking devise and a kill pole all In one stake.

If I'm following this your talking about that ram thing that looks like a over sized body grip spring.

Ram puts them down 99% of the time under 60 seconds if used properly. Always an exception to the rule but they are flat out the best snare system out there. You can reset in the same spot most of the time because there is rarely a struggle and any noticeable damage to your set location. Most end up off the trail.

But In open prairie situations like In ND your going to have to drive a stake to attach It to. Well there are shelter belts with trees but that would be limiting your locations.

You can put a ram foot on them in the open. They work just as well. Rebar stake to hold it and you have a dead coyote off the trail. Put many on my truck tracks through the snow and have had a lot of coyotes walk right in.

I have used them and they work. But I'm cheap and I don't want to pay $20.00 for the ram thing. When I can drive In a kill pole and get pretty much the same results.

Well we have no choice, no free hangers allowed except with special permit. Never used a snare pole but have seen lots of pictures of results. Let's just say with a ram I like picking up clean coyotes 99% of the time.

I'm running them on fence crossing to keep the crossing fresh and prevent the fence damage I've had with other snares, one thing about the Rams is people WILL pick them up no left $2 snares laying around the pasture...

I have used them since they first came out in '99-2000. Snared for 25 years before that. No comparison here for me as even with a kill pole there is a lot of chewing, waterheads and an escape with the smaller diameter cable in regular snares. Poor trigger design so I had to come up with (design) one that is more sensitive, enough that it takes non-targets like rooster pheasants and cottontails (if they get their heads/bodies high enough). Game cams show dispatch on 'yotes in 2 minutes or less. But there is no time to let an accidental dog catch free like a regular snare so ONLY in Lethal situations should it be used!!!!!!!!

If I'm correct snaring season doesn't start In ND until duck and upland bird seasons are closed. So that should Eliminate most Incidental catches.
But If you catch and kill the wrongs guys dog things could get pretty nasty.
That's how we lost the use of the unprotected 220.

It was pushed into law in Canada by anti trapping activists and its considered the most humane snare, I understand some people don't like them, that's not my fault... As far as tresspassing on posted land in ND, Id rather not get into that, your reading about public land laws...

60 seconds ? How do they know this ?
Who among you has ever filmed enough actual catches with a hidden camera to say it kills a coyote in 60 seconds ?

I'm willing to bet you wouldn't kill many big eastern coyotes with their size, strength and heavy coats in 60 seconds on avarge.
In fact, I got money that says it won't !

I don't know but I killed a 150 doe In a cable restraint In a non entanglement situation. It was set up with a 280Lb BAD. There was snow on the ground and no catch circle. That deer died pretty quick.

I could fill this page with pics of dead coyote in Rams that didn't even leave a scratch Mark in the dirt.

They don't get the chance to, Iv'e seen pics and talked to a few that have used them. Even Wolves don't struggle. The big easterns would be no problem.

I'm running 1/16th 1x19. Dokota line mini cam lock with 285 lb. S-hook for coyote and beaver both. Using both the coyote and wolf model. Not sure what the #1 size is.

I have seen Coyotes run directly into my sets around bait stations. Yep even put the clock on a few. I use them in snow. Anybody that's trapped long enough can read tracks in the snow. Doesn't take an expert to see that when the ram springs there's not much of a struggle if any at all.

Bring your eastern coyote and I'll stick a ram on it then we can set the clock. The bigger wolf ram knocks 90 pound wolves out the same way. Maybe you should try the wolf Rams on your big eastern coyotes.

What is your snare choice that is better/quicker than a ram for those big eastern coyotes? I have money that's says you don't have a better choice.

Look at 5911ryan on YouTube. Up in Canada snaring on bait piles really racks coyotes up using all RAMS.

Oh, I'm not doubting that. The majority of coyotes I come upon that are snared are alive.
I'm snaring grasslands with no entanglement.

Are you using the WOLF Ram then to kill coyotes ?

Had 2 game cam catches of coyotes immobile (assume dead) in 2 min. or less in mine and have switched to 3/64 cable for even quicker deaths. Lots of catches with no disturbance to the site and no theft here in open cropland eastern Ne. Like I stated, I have used them since '99-2000 and evolved a trigger more sensitive than the factory design so I am sold on their lethalness. You learn a lot by using any equipment that long, be it part-time or full time.

X2 wife. Been using them since the late 90's here too. Pretty much at all crawl under's. You learn where you like them over time.

LT. I have a handful of the wolf springs. I like them on coyote as I can extend a loop out farther in a trail and still keep the spring over to the side. The wolf spring being a little longer than the coyote and beaver model gives you a little longer cable.

I have never used rams here and wondered if they would be worth the expense. I like the idea of coyotes being dead right away causing less damage of course. I might be a skeptic though thinking that less in the set area is better. Our coyotes are pretty weary. What type of reaction do you guys get with a poorly caught coyote? (Leg, belly, shoulders)

Well I can use snare on land but not a 330. I will stick with footholds I guess. I always wanted to try the mini ram on mink. But i heard they were not sensitive enough for mink to set off.
