Anybody make a set for K9s using something they like to roll on but on the side of a tree or fence post? I know it works for cats. And I've seen K9s get crazy about rolling on some scents. It just got me to wondering if they would get that intense if it was put on a post or tree.

yep, put liquid castor on it a couple feet up and they will rub/shoulder it.

I like using anything that's in place and natural - no more than 12" high - smear of castor and squirt of bladder urine

I use rub or post sets on a regular basis combined with dirtholes.

Here's a fallen limb which I elevated the butt end with a stone. Limb fell in good spot at corner of atv trail & farm lane.

Here in brush, I found a discarded Christmas tree skeleton. I laid it in place an took picture. After that, I laid a rock on back side to elevate trunk and hold tree in place.

Elevated sets can be made at you hottest locations. Pre-season work to get them in place and being used will up your success. Plus they have eye appeal with or with out snow.

The major problems with rub type sets Is trap placement. It can be a real crap shoot lots of things can go wrong.

I agree with beav but once you figure out trap placement its a deadly set. That can and does take multiple spieces

Keep the rub lure high, make a few mock rub sets before season. Trap placement will be obvious! Experiment with the height of the attractor, it alters the sweet spot..

Same with urine post sets.
...but once you figure out trap placement its a deadly set.
There is a learning curve with all set construction. Some folks don't take the time to think things out or take time to correct problems.

my all time favorite rub scent is fish juice turned into a jell. Yotes cant resist it and up high the grinners miss the trap 90% of the time. I fashion mine similar to a tall grab and die stick. Stick angles away from trap makes grinners go to the back side. Yotes lean in to shoulder it. cats stretch there necks out to face rub.

What got me thinking about this is a video (I believe I saw on here) with a fox rubbing on a log laying flat on the ground with urine applied to it and also I have some cat glands with some bladder urine I saved this year that I put on a stick for my dog to sample and she about wore her hair off rolling on it. I was thinking if you could put it off the ground (to keep them on their feet) and get this type of reaction from coyotes it could work.

As Hern has pictured, a small log pulled up especially at a road intersection and the butt elevated by a rock or sometimes just the natural sweep in the log to get it up to about 10 inches or so with some sort of good rub lure and urine is deadly on yotes, cats and grays. I also have real good success with this set along logging roads where I notice multiple scat piles in very short distance.
