I just got back from the VA. convention, and saw this. Good show and met a lot of good folks, despite the rain. Shane If you can get to Marks Academy get there. The Coyote and bobcat trapping instructions are great and intense. I was trying to get back there this coming March in Ks but my schedule will not allow it, maybe next year, but I will be back there. and just for the record Mark and Rusty throw so much information at us I had to ask a lot of questions to keep everything in my head, I couldn't write that fast LOL Great time.
Teach, Newts place is about an hour south east of Philly air port. Straight run. It is an easy drive once you get into NJ and not that bad getting across the river from the airport. maybe 20 mins. Despite all the thoughts of concrete and cities, Southern NJ is farms, thick woods/forest and vast tide meadows. So the only thing you have to worry about is the Jersey devil and big foot if driving in the dark. Newt's place is in the pine barrens along the south east coastal tide meadows. The tides will swing 3 to 4 feet in 6 hours where my tides on the south west side (Delaware river and bay) will swing 6 to 8 feet in 6 hours.
The school was Newts idea, and we talked about it for a few years before doing it. We asked Morgan to join us for the 2nd school to complete the Goal that we wanted the school to be. An all around snaring and trapping school. Tide water, beaver and cable is what most folks come for. But also coon seems hot this year. Yes we use cable restraints but the only difference between hanging a CR and a snare is swivel, deer stop and maybe a break away in some states. NJ Cr's do not require a Breakaway. we instruct on how to use both snares and CR's.
