I am currently "farming" mice for bedding. I have an aquarium with grass clippings and 4 wild caught mice. Once the bedding is about a week or two old I will bag it and put in freezer for use in dirt holes and hay sets. I'm think fresh chunk beaver down the hole with a wad of mouse bedding grass stuffed on top.

Same thing LOL

I'm not a big fan of rabbit for bait. It really doesn't have much of a odor.
Now mouse urine soaked mouse nests are ten times better then the actual mouse It's self. And If you cage up a bunch of mice they just keep on giving day after day.
many years ago my Dad raised and sold feeder mice for pet reptiles - walking through the room with all those mouse cages would bring tears to your eyes - if he was still around raising those mice you can bet I'd be taking all the sticking nest material!!!

What about beef? I have oxtail, neck and other parts that family doesn't eat. Was thinking just use it with solution.

I had good luck with deer and dobbins bait solution. Still using Dobbins but going to try Dunlaps and Jameson's this year. Plus have a friend that saved a bobcat carcass for me to use this year also

I have good luck with beaver meat. This year I have trapped a few mice and I am going to grind that up and give it a try.

Hands down.. I have caught more coyotes and fox on deer liver than any other meat bait I have ever used. I chunk it up and mix it with deer hair.

Try some liver, seriously. Add plain salt to keep it from freezing. Use it it very cold weather. Even you will be able to smell it's unique odor when approaching the set. It envokes a very unique response in predators.

Does it matter if it's deer, beef, or pork liver ? -Thanks

I've used beef liver with Jamison's bait solution and can say every hole gets dug out sometime they will work it weeks after I pull the set or even a month. Maybe it's just the solution....

When coyotes make a kill, the first meat they eat is the internal orgins. Liver, lungs, Kidneys. Then the hind quarters. Same when you put out beaver carcasses..

I’ve used fresh and tainted deer liver in the past and had very good luck with it. I like the idea of adding the hair, just seems like it would enhance the smell !

I don't know what he said in his demo, but I can tell you by the numerous testimonials I've gotten from trappers using my bait
solution, it definitely enhances any red meat bait. I sell hundreds of pints of it, and an awful lot of it to repeat customers.

Pauli am still using your mix !!! I chunked up beaver & Rats for two years.. Made a 2 gallon pail.mixed it in ...let it set for a year..

WOW!!! WORKS WELL!!!

Beaver carcasses get ripped open and the liver/lungs/kidneys gets eaten first. Then they move it and slowly consume the rest. With small game I couldn't tell ya. I suspect its gone in one gulp..

I use Deer Dust. It's the fine stuff that comes off the band saw (like saw dust to wood saw). The deer processors throws Deer Dust in the garbage can.
It's free, I don't have to gut, chop or cube, no grinning, it's ready to use fresh or be mixed with other ingredients, no mess, no waste.
It very fine and I can smear it in dirthole and canine has to work to get every morsel. No hooking with toe nail and pulling bait chunk from dirthole. It's Paste-like. It's FREE from the local Deer Processor.

I stopped the messy, time consuming chopping, slicing, grinning of bait many years ago when I saw a deer processor push deer dust off his band saw table into the garbage can. That's when a light bulb appeared over my head and realized the benefits of Deer Dust.
Our state, it's legal to use deer.

This is good info. Love hearing 1st hand experience. So you've seen this for beaver, and also deer? How bout small prey like rabbit, mice, squirrel, etc, if the whole animal isn't consumed then what is eaten, and what's not? Thanks!
Mice are swallowed whole. Bids, rabbits and most other small critters are ate head first. Brains would fall into the same category as liver, heart and organs. Opening up a coyote stomach will tell you a lot of times what there feeding on and stomach content isn't a bad bait either. I opened up one the other day that had 9 whole mice in his stomach.

Would tainted hamburger(beef) work for bait? or would you mix in other stuff to make a paste bait?

Andy: Are you saying that you have opened up a coyote stomach and used the content as bait?
Yes. Many times. I highly doubt a coyote ever forgets the smell of regurgitated food. Probably as much a curiosity attractor as it is a bait. Especially on older pups that like to kill or kill for the fun of it.
