They are interesting, and two biologist friends call them crazy, sometimes Every spring one likes to hammer on the end peak of my cabin's metal roof. He sure knows the loudest place to announce himself ! I call him Uzi. He knows he needs to stop and take off if he wakes me at the crack of dawn Nice captures , Jonathan, as usual .

That's called "Drumming", it's how they mark their territory and warn off others. There's a Sycamore up the street that has a branch that really makes a racket, and I've had them drum on my chimney cap. That'll really make you jump! LOL

Nice pics as always Jonathan! I wonder why they are now called northern flicker, I always get corrected when I call them yellow shafted flickers.
