Yep I've used the feet of coyotes and fox down a hole or even tossed in to a thick brush pile
Is it my go to set? No
But sometimes a little change gets the fur
Every day is a gift from GOD, don't waste it!!
If they have plenty of food, give them something interesting to smell

Yes sir . I saw that. My clients dig large pits with dozer. Thats were I pile my coyotes. I shoot them with a 22 pistol threw the chest. Less blood. I may have to haul a dead coyote in back of my 2012 tacoma for 7-8 hours to get back to the hole. Point is, it already stinks. So opeaning up the stomach in 100 degree heat would REALLY stink up my truck. But I bet it would be great bait. Cut off feet with Hack saw, cutout anal glands, AND maybe cut meat of hams will be my plan I think. I have a sack full of tail hair already

Andy Weiser posted yesterday on another thread that the stomach contents of a coyote make a good bait. This has worked for me on pups especially. Mostly early in the season too

A coyote doesn't spend its' life searching for perfumes and secret ingredients and all that stuff. The food chain is nothing new and animals eat and are attracted to other animals and natural smells. Some more than others. How many thousands of coyotes are caught at bait stations and snares every year?It all boils down to having a good population available. It doesn't matter how many dvd's or classes are available teaching the same principles over and over,I have yet to find one that is done where there aren't many animals to begin with.Get in an area where there are 4 cats per square mile or 15 coyotes per square mile, you are going to catch alot of fur.Alot of folks want that magic pill that will somehow provide results that are simply not there. I wanna go where there’s 15 coyotes per square!!! Maybe I’ll make a DVD while I’m there!

I have used all parts. Those old books and articles have a lot of good information. All parts work well. a good sharp axe is quicker.

Thw more I read about the old wolfer , the more I realize how easy we have it. Plus I think there is LOTS to be learned from the old wolfers. Their ways maybe in the past. But you can argue with the numbers they caught, and the limited supplys they had. Getting back to the basics can be a bad thing

Lots of those guys started out on horseback too. At times there were many more coyotes than we have right now. I like the idea of chiseling a rock so a chain can be wrapped around it and wired and then just using your rock as the backing with the trap chained to it. What could be more natural for a coyote? If you are looking for fast and easy just cut off the parts you want and toss them in a hole right where you catch them or take them out of the trap and leave the carcass close by. That will attract other coyotes too. Then set you trap back. Coyote trapping can be a dirty business hauling around everything you need.

Larry, I have read some of the same things. To ME that would have been a GREAT life. In fact, to most of the wagon and horse trappers they looked at trapping as a life style more than a job. Most of my jobs reguire head counts. On my larger jobs I place the coyotes in a large hole dug with a 955 dozer. Then send the = Land Manager a dayly picture of predator count. SO leaving a whole carcass is not an option for me. Thats why I may just take Chunks of the hams of coyotes. And some tails, feet, and glands.

I have, with good results. Fur from around anus, anal glands, paws, lure made from paw pads, paw pads cut off and thrown in hole. I have used quite a bit from some of those old books. One of my favorite flat sets is a 3"-4" diameter branch or tree, 8' in length with a #4 dbl longspring chained to it. The tree is the backing and the drag, I lure a distinct portion, often a knob or knot of the branch and bed the trap in front of it. It's quick, easy, I find it on location and they don't go very far chained to it. Works great in winter with frozen ground.

Did u try using the feet? No this trip. Forgot my hack saw. For some reason, I forgot lots of stuff last trip. Hacksaw, 24 inch bolt cutter, grinder, and back up Dewalts drill with auger. Will cut off some feet and throw down deep dirt hole on next trip. May even try to stick feet up in air = and use in some type of Flat Set . Need to find = or figure out way to wire or stake down feet

Feet work very well, all by themselves no lure or urine added... So which do you find works best? Feet down a deep hole? Feet at a Flat Set? I have 30 days to experiment with this. Will give Feet a try~

My thought was = tent stake, wire the paw to it OR shortened wooden tomato stake = wired. I going to try it any way. Have bamboo on my property could use it for a stake. I have used bamboo as a lure holder in the past Work well

Iv'e use berks with cable also. as long as they have to work to take it. Same theory as the M44s.

I use WF, but use any anchor that they cant get away with. Hard to miss them, as they will have tracks all over trying to take it with them. I use grub stakes that I make up from a wooden peg and burlap too.

Lee Do you anchor your grub stakes down also? No Seth, I just put enough length on the peg to make sure it stays put. Usually make about three different lengths. Like the wood, (oak) because it swells up a bit in the ground. To pull them, I grab the wood shank under the burlap with pliers, and stick my driver under the pliers and pull up. The coyote ain't got the right tools to take it with him!
