I think it's a puffball. When they mature and dry out, you stomp on it and it puffs out a "smoke" of sorts. Not good for anything I know of.

IF it turns black in a day or so it could be a shaggy mane. they turn to "ink" really quick and are a real tasty shroom. alot of the time the shaggys will have friends growing near by in a day or 2. if it is a shaggy the cap will start to open at the bottom and will start to blacken within a few hours. the ones i find are usually found in grass near the dripline of mature trees. usually the cap is more elongated on the shaggys and the outside of the cap will be more ragged. click here

I suspect you will see it turn to a flat top about the size of a pancake In a couple of days. Get e few each year in my back yard
