Thank you sir. Yes, I’m trapping a plantation and plan on it as long as the manager remains the manager and he ain’t planning on going anywhere. And he hates cats more than coyotes.
Now I’m going to show my in experience, how high do you hang the attractiors and what exactly are cubbies?
To make your time spent trapping, enjoyable, and productive, I have some suggestions for you.
Wanting to become a trapper is a wonderful thing. You will find that there is so much to learn, and always room to grow. You will spend more time outdoors and get plenty of great exercise.
You will meet some great people and have a hobby or avocation that will last a life time if it is meant to be.
There is more to trapping than one might first think. Tons to learn just to get started.
First, join the state trapping association and attend some conventions and or workshops where demonstrations on trapping may get you on the right path.
Another thing to do if you want to jump start your education is look for some good books and DVDs.
Rick Olson has an excellent book on bobcat trapping. Yes it is written by a guy from Minnesota but it has a ton of transferable info.
Carl Jones has a real nice cat trapping book. There are lot of books but these two come to mind and they have a solid not baloney approach.
DVDs, my there are lots. Ones that come to mind that may be good for a being trapper and that can translate to your area:
I found good info in all of the ones mentioned. There may be lots more that I have not seen.
Mike McMurry has a good one
Bobcat trapping by James Lord
Cat trapping by Mike Bailey
J.C. Conner has a good one on cats.
Ray Milligan has a good one.
Steve Wood has a series of good ones.
Good old Matt Jones has a combo cat and coyote DVD
Mark June has a darn good one.
Others worth mention are Gary Jepson's and Johnny Thorpe's,
Good luck to you. As you can see from your first replies you will find some nice guys on here that will jump in and help if they can.
