That I asked about open water trapping. This is the property I bought Wonder still how to rat trap it. Proir to freeze up from my canoe

Thx I've never trapped open water rats. Always been shallow ponds and streams

Every day is a gift from GOD, don't waste it!!

If they have plenty of food, give them something interesting to smell

Have you seen it come late fall to see if you have rats? or how many? They build huts there...or bank denners (or both)? I'm guessing bank dens, primarily.

Looks like it could be awesome....but there are places that look awesome, that won't hold a rat (for some reason).

Look for the cattails and sweet flag. Lilly pads normally don't produce many muskrat.

Common sense catches alot of fur..
Pay homage to all you harvest..

There are rats, only time huts are made there is in the fall for winter feeding. That brings the coyotes which are my prime target. Plus there are beaver

Have been seeing rats there since I started fishing it 30 years ago, but now that I own some of it and got permission from others to trap there sections

Across the road from this is a 200-300 acre cattail marsh also

I've seen Lily pad marshes that can produce quite a few rats. They even build the huts out of the pads.

You'll figure out where the rats are when season comes around if you look.

Look for swim trails through the aquatic veg, trace them back to the main runs and huts

Good luck. Should be rats. Seems any puddle with a weed in it has rats around here. I am trying same thing this year because I am tired of packing up and down small creeks and ponds. I have a huge area with many more cat tails. Canoeing it next week to see how easy it will be.

Wish I had more time to trap....

Rats LOVE lillypad roots.

I've trapped plenty of rats off places that didn't have one cattail around the edge.

One of my best rat ponds is covered with lillypads too. The roots are everywhere on the feed beds.
