My mom and dad sell sweet corn from a produce stand they have set up in their driveway. Dad picks...Mom sells. Yesterday afternoon it was 85 degrees and dad is out in the field with 5 gallon buckets picking more corn. Of course we cant "pre-pick it" the evening before when it's cooler because people want their corn Fresh! Dad is 85 years old and has a broken tailbone as a result of a fall 2 weeks ago. He just keeps plugging along. I wont have that kind of ambition when or IF I get that old!

Ambition, drive, fortitude, integrity, and physical activity may be why he is still alive and chugging along at 85 years old. Same for mom. Impressive people are rare.

Yes indeed. May the Creator bless each and everyone of them!

It was there way of life to make it back in there day and that is what they stick with all there life. it is not something new for me to hear or seen.I was brought up with the ones of that time and they told me alot of how it was and what they needed to do to make it.I was taught that way also. Do what you can and keep at it until you not able to anymore. The day that ones stops is the day that they are done.

I will double that last sentence, I had a great aunt who at 101 still got out and turned over her garden with a shovel every year and out work any 2 people at any task, her doctor always said she was inbetter shape them his other patients half her age, then her kids talked her into going into one of those old people retirement apartments and she was as gone shortly afterwards My dad was of that generation he went into WW2 at 20 fought through some of the worst battles and wounded twice and was reported dead 4 time after having his position overrun and in one case suffering over 80% losses Dad suffered nightmares as long as he lived and died way to young from service related health problems the remaining years of his life, even knowing he would die before his time instead of (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) and complaining he spent it helping other vets deal with health and physical problems They truly were and are the greatest generation

That's an awesome era. My father is 74 and still commercial crabs, and rides snow mobiles with us.

My dad was born in 22...lost money in banks in depression. Medals as a pilot in ww2....they didn't call it the greatest generation for nothing! (I can't help it.) Exactly how much money did your dad lose when he was 7 years old?

This I got a call two weeks ago to come pick up some junk. I see what looks to be a man who has to be every bit of 80 rolling a burn barrel to the road When I arrived at location. So I hopped out and went directly over to him to help. I assumed barrel was light by the way he was handling it. Wrong! It was all I could do to finish the distance with it. The guy was pushing 100 years old!!!!! He had already moved two big cabinets. WWII vet

Exactly how much money did your dad lose when he was 7 years old? cant tell u that but it was a good piece for a kid who went to work at 5 after his dad died. He did deliveries from the bakeries to help his mom and push mowed yards with the old roller bladed type and sold papers. Anything he could do to help his mom in hard times. He never kept much money in banks per say after that. He always invested in bonds,,stocks etc. I think he told me when the banks fell a new car was like 300 dollars??? Been quite a few yrs since he told me about it....anyhow he is dead so i cant ask him. By the way ,he went to college on the gi bill for accounting then switched to sales and business. Learned from early life and died a millionaire. The pic is his step father and mom around the thirties i think similar to his plane he flew for the army air corp over germany before it officially became the air force. He kept pilots license for yrs and had many job offers from airlines but said he could still see his buddies going down beside him over germany and thats why he never flew again. he wasnt a pleasant guy, life gave him lemons...he made lemonade.

My dad is 92 years old and a decorated WWII veteran. He was on a a ladder one week ago today putting up a new eves trough on one of his sheds by himself when it came loose and knocked him off his ladder. I took him to the vet's hospital the next day, cracked rib and pelvis. He is back at home now walking a couple hundred feet down the driveway to get mail and doing odd jobs around his house.
Zim LOL, are you my brother? My 92 YO Dad enlisted on his 17th Bday, served in the Pacific. We had to take his extension ladder away summer before last, he was up on the roof. 2 story house! Cracks his first beer by 0700 and has been smoking since he was 12. Always says," Lotta things may kill me, but stress ain't gonna be one of them!" Hard times made hard men

They don't make em like that any more.Too bad.My dad was born in 1923,quit school after sixth grade to work to help support the family.Voluntered for Marines in WWII.Fought with Sixth Marines In south Pacific against japs.Wounded on Bouganville and Okinawa.I have both his purple hearts and his service .45 and the jap rifle he mailed home.Never griped about nothin.I would ask him about getting wounded,,he would laugh and say,,,figures,,leave it to me to come home with the medals nobody wants to get.
