Ive used the tiny ones for small mammal trapping, that what your asking about?

they were probably 2.5 x 2.5 x 10, just little things. I dont think I saw the mechanisms chewed, but certainly the doors and some of the edges on the inside. After seeing that Im sure they would/could chew the mechanism to the door. We were catching field mice, pocket mice and a few different shrews. Even had a few chipmunks and some other odd stuff.

Sherman traps are a necessity for any mammalogist, like me. I have about 250 of the 3x3x9 but the university I work at has about 2,000. Most of us use the folding type where all 4 sides collapse for storage & traveling. These traps allow for mark-recapture studies which have contributed a lot towards understanding how populations work. The most common damage is from predators like raccoons, if an animal is caught inside, a coon will push his hand through the doors & pull & bend them. Coyotes cause problems too. I've had traps carried away & sometimes find them chewed up w/ obvious coyote tooth patterns where they've punctured the aluminum.
