I'm sure that I am over thinking this, but what size chain do you guys/gals use for making chain stakes, Using super stakes and wolf fangs for coyote/bobcat? The reason I ask is when looking up chain(not import)most of the supply houses say #2 machine chain is good up to coyotes #3 is better, but when they sell their own chain stakes they usually come with #2 chain. I have both, just wondering. Thanks

#2 works but #3 works better IMO. It's easier to hook on to to pull and won't break when pulled like #2 can. Weld the conection at the stake end.

You will be miles ahead just buying the premade chain stakes from MTP. You won't save much doing it yourself, will be out the time, and very hard pressed to match their quality.

When you're pulling, don't hook through chainlink, drop the chain into the hook and it will never break.

The chain was from MTP. The puller was made by myself.

That's why I'm asking, the MTP stakes are made with #2 premium chain, so I'm thinking #3 would be better.

Call and ask, Bet they'd make you as many as you wanted with #3 Chains.

I too have broke the number 2 chain and it also was dropped in the hook that's why Im going to all number 3 chain , I guess you d have to think if it is worth it for the long haul.

I agree with an above post.
I called MTP today and had 4 dozen super stakes made with #3. I hear it will last a lot longer and it was only 35 per dozen.
After doing the math on buying the chain and the stakes and the mighty hooks then taking the time to weld them up it is cheaper to buy them pre made

I’ve been taking apart old tire chains and using them for my wolf fang stakes.
