I really like to use #3 longsprings for coyotes but every once in a while in the sport of trapping we can catch a non Target that needs to be released. Is there any tricks or tips to get them out of a longspring trap easier? Those traps really lock up and trying to get something out of there not being able to break the trap over your knee can make your day pretty interesting. Thanks for any and all advice

I weigh 140, and I use #3 longs a lot. I have a good catch pole #1, gotta be able to control the animal safely, for you and it. Then I have two Irwin clamps. They can be operated with one hand. One clamp per spring, while holding the animal safely down using the other. I usually also put a foot on the control pole to insure things stay put, after the second clamp is in place. The rest is just releasing the animal unharmed. You can get some heavier duty Irwin's that are pretty short. I have a pair that I use on the line, and for working on long springs. They're just handy if you own long springs.

There was a guy who cut the middle tines out of a rake. He then hooked the tines over the springs, when the animal pulled he pulled

Sleepy Creek's 330 setters also work on long springs, that's what the flat notch is for.
