So i dont know if it was on here or somewhere else but i had seen someone post a recipe found in an attic from the 30s but it was a bait with a gallon of grasshoppers and a beef liver. If anyone can help me out with the original recipe or with ideas of what else to put in it. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks all.

Sounds like an old Wiley Carrol Bait

I knew I had read that bait before - its in The Trapperman Book Volume II

Grasshopper Bait
Here is his grasshopper bait. Let me know where you can find a gallon of ground grasshoppers.

1 gallon ground grasshoppers
1 quart beef fat
1 ounce beaver castor
allow to ripen one week then add
1/3 ounce zinc valerate

If freeze dried would work you can by them off ebay. $80 for 5 LBS.

I couldn't fathom how many grasshoppers it takes to make 5 lbs! Hoppers work but are hard to work with. But they have a very unique odor. I've had moderate success using them as a side smell. Have'nt found a way to keep them fresh preserved yet!
