M probably like a lot of trappers and have a ton of long springs/ stoplosses just sitting in crates. I’m thinking of trying something different this year to see how it works. Two traps per blind mink set. Anyone ever do this? Both attached to same anchor cable. Yes I have plenty of 1.5 and number two square jaws. Just thinking of bringing the long springs out and dusting them off during these high mink prices.

Have done it before...my success has been good. Watch shallow water locations as even with long chains and swivels "issues" can occur

You can do it, but it isn't needed with proper trap placement and proper guiding. Putting 2 traps at a set requires more labor and more time, and time is money.

If you are only running a few sets and a few locations and you have plenty of time and traps, and it gives you more confidence, it won't hurt anything.

Two traps together on same anchor = one mink. Two traps set along the same structure anchored a few feet apart= a good chance for a double.

My thoughts as well. Spread those traps out a bit.

If I had to make two sets at a stop I would make a blind and a baited set. Whatever the location calls for.

Twice in my trapping experiences I have had 1 trap spring fall on the second trap pan and spring after a catch. It released enough tension on the first trap spring to allow the animal to escape (both traps anchored to the same stake). This was/is highly unlikely but I did set a lot of 2 traps/spot back in the late 60's and early 70's (dating myself). After the second time this happened I quit using the same anchor for the 2 traps and I spaced them far enough apart that one interfering with the other could not happen. This was done when we used 2 traps to hold coons as their fur price was climbing and the methods (and traps) of today were not known. That was my experience and after that change to individual stakes for each trap my catch to retrieve ratio went up on coons, still caught them in two traps but they were spread out. I have used the same anchor for digger coyotes with the second trap (but only when trying to be as cautious as possible) and I fasten the 2nd to the first trap chain about 1/2 way up from the end with plenty of working swivels. Smaller furbearers it may not matter but the swivels may still be rendered inoperable when fastened at the same spot if the two tangle. My take

Two traps, two anchors, and rarely will there be a blind set. 2 traps per stop, and if it's a honey hole, more.

As an actual blind set mink trapper in it is all I have ever used, it is redundant to use two traps. For those who have made the point of double catches, the point in mink trapping is not to catch the females, but to focus on the older bucks who are solitary animals.
Yes you can catch non dispersed families on rare occasions, but in most instances you are dealing with solitary animals on a circuit. Mink are of their own mindset. An area might be alive early and by season the animals are all gone. The same with hot areas early many times are minkless late, and vice versa in some areas never will produce until the old bucks begin roaming late in the season.
I would offer an adjustment to your thinking on traps. Make your best blind sets for mink, and save your traps for the trash locations, upstream and opposite bank to keep the non targets in muskrat and coons out of your mink sets which are bank sets.
And in that adjustment leave the dust on your longsprings as there is reason those who taught us mink trapping went with the coils.

Star Flakes what is the reason for not using longsprings? I use a lot of 1 1/2 coils but wouldn't stop using 1 1/2 and 2 longs. I even use 3 and 4 longs if Im short on traps for mink.

I am just wanting to use them for nostalgia this season. I'm certainly not going to make any money mink trapping. I started out for several years with nothing but number one longs for possums, rats and the occasional mink. I've about forgotten how it was to use them.

Like some of the others above, I'd rather use the second trap at a different set, be it another blind set, or a baited/lured set. Though maybe if somebody's just starting out and doesn't have their trap placement down quite right yet, a second trap may make a catch that they might not have made otherwise.

Go for it !

I use two traps fastened to the same tie plate to block small feeder streams. If the feeder is only a foot or two wide I set the tie plate right in the center and set the traps on top of the plate. I just crowd the sides of the plate with grass and im done. Super simple and effective and you'll catch and hold just about anything that comes along. Another place I set two traps on the same plate is inside small culvert tubes. I can cover the entire area with two traps without looking around for blocking. I remember the good old days of long springs and jump traps too !

Ken makes a good point and It's something I never thought of. Guess you can teach an old dog new tricks. Thanks, Ken.

Two #1 Bridger coils outfitted with Duke #1 1/2 pans on the same drowner cable in the elbow set. One set back in the horizontal hole just shy of the vertical hole. The other at the entrance. Bait in the back of the horizontal hole, just past the vertical hole. Trapper Art's shovel to punch the horizontal hole. 3" drill to punch out the vertical hole. Many times have had two critters at the bottom of the drowner cable.

For that ideal set location an excellent choice for a multiple day check.
