I was never a big time trapper, but I used to work my butt off. I didn't get anywhere near enough sleep and wore myself to a nub every season. With fur prices what they are these days, I don't set as many traps as I used to and I go at it at a lot slower pace. My fur checks are nothing like they used to be, but there's less competition and I'm having a lot more fun doing it.

No quick upturn, that's for certain.

After having a lot of I* beaver pelts sell for $1 each I wondered to myself what the point in them even grading them is.

So we should all drive across the northern border in order to ship our fur?

Raccoon Market
The last few years have seen the raccoon prices at historic lows. Stockpiles of raccoon have kept any hope of a price increase at bay. Recently, however, prices have begun to creep up. This is due to dwindling stocks of certain grades and the popularity of long hair coyote style trims.

There have been several years of depressed prices leading to severe cuts in production. Many sections now barely produce any raccoon. Small sizes and heavy skins have sold well, and with few coming in to replace them, we are now left open to more raccoon at increased prices. Ranch mink prices are keeping all prices in check, but we plan to be as aggressive on raccoon as possible.

The Canada Goose coyote trim fad has been so successful that it has left some coyote customers wanting more and different trims. Raccoon is the perfect substitute. Raccoon’s price, texture and workability are putting it in many new fashion lines for the fall.

Decreased production of raccoon coupled with substitution of raccoon for coyote on fur trims have positioned it to make a move this season. So, it might be the time to get out the DP’s.

Don't mistake skepticism for hate. Those who have been in this business for a while have seen this before. Time will tell. LLL

Coon will find buyers but at what level, this market is very shallow and only wants big size and heavy coon. Lot of coon in storage to tamp down any big increase.

It looks like the market for tanned beaver tails is good. You can buy beaver tail leather at https://www.beavertailleather.com/ maybe they will buy more beaver tails this year.

The question is, does GFWCO have lots of 'coon in storage?

It's all a crap shoot do what you do best and like the most and you can still enjoy the season it's your line run it as you see fit, some enjoy the money and some depend on it but some live for the experience to each their own. Enjoy

That is a cool web site. Every one should have a tanned beaverbtail that is blue........

The one thing I noticed is that there is no contact info. No name. No location. No phone number. Makes me wonder where these folks are and if they are legit.

If you want to contact them, you fill out a form and email it to them. And supposedly they will get back to you.

Has any one done any business with them?

My guess is that I have the woods and marshes to myself, especially after deer season. It means that during her Xmas vacation, my oldest granddaughter and me will have a blast catching $2 weasels and try to fill the Fisher tag.

People around me are already talking about the "higher" coon prices. Good grief.
