Fixed.Adjustable for a clog tie-off.

I hate fooling around with adjustables. Only thing I use adjustables for is Dustin Drew's ultimate snare support rig. If I need to loop cable around a tree to attach a trap to it, I just use a sleep-ez hook on the loop end and clip it back to the cable.

Mostly fixed loop, various lengths made from salvaged snare cable. A few longer adjustable, but seldom needed.

Sometimes the adjustable are difficult to open after catching a critter

One thing I have found that helps on the adjustable ends to come open easier is going to a bigger size ferrule.

Adjustable on one end with a wing nut instead of a ferrule. Held on with an annealed nut. Much easier to open than a ferrule.

Because I go through so many snares and make extensions out of most of them after a catch, I seldom buy extensions any more. All the ones I re-purpose have #9 wire swivels on one end, so I use a double ferrule and nut on the loop end to make it adjustable. No other reason than I like the extra swivel &'the adjustable loop seems more convienent. All my cable is 7x7 3/32 which kinks pretty easy, so I usually need to shorten them after a couple of catches. If I need a longer extension and don't have one with me, I just quick link a couple together. What Aix said about
1/8" 7x19 got my attention though. He's a pretty good cable man, and is scheduled to do a snare building demo for us at the TTFHA Fall Rendezvous at Brownwood, Tx. on Oct. 12 & 13. Aix, would you please bring me a dozen 6 ft. length to try?

I use both. Fixed on one end and adjustable on the other.

That is what I do also.I mainly use the used snare for it if the length is to what I want. I do make some from new cable also.I do not buy any extensions.

In the woods, where I know I will go around a tree,I use a fixed loop.In the open areas, where I stake,I use an adjustable end.I don't want to pull a stake to replace a snare if a deer pops a break away.

Tryed adjustable loops many years ago.
Didnt see any advanage in them.

I make snare extensions 10' long a fixed loop on one end and a tree lock on the other. That way I can use the tree lock around a tree or sage brush and loop the snare end Thur the loop end. Or I can use the tree lock end thru a chain link on a earth anchor.
