Does anybody here know the inside jaw spread on Sleepy Creek #3 Double Longs? I've emailed two dealers and got two different answers.

Bob, why wouldn't you just look at Sleepy Ck website?......it says the reg jaw is 5 13/16 and offset jaw is 6"
Having gigged you a bit..hopefully consructively...you've also told me you have a small catalog collection. The Minnesota Trapline catalog shows both inside and outside spreads....as do several other FREE catalogs, like from Sterling Fur and Schmitt Enterprises and NWtrappers and Southeastern Outdoor and FnT and PCS.
In my opinion, we all need several catalogs at hand.
I find it much faster and easier to compare prices and info when I can open catalog A, then find same product in catalog B, then open catalog C, etc, etc. This is my experience and hope it helps.
I see you are new here and could be a new trapper also...….WELCOME to the t-man family! Traprjohn, I've become more leery of advertised jaw spread measurements than used car salesmen and I thought I'd see if somebody here that had some, might be able to give me an honest measurement before I bought some traps that may not be legal here. I may be mistaken, but the only measurements I remember seeing advertised were outside measurements. My mind isn't what it used to be though, either.LOL Thanks for your input and the welcome, I appreciate it.

My SC #3 offsets have an inside jaw spread just shy of 5 3/8". I'm also leery of advertised jaw spreads because they sometimes differ from one supplier to the next. Besides, the Sleepy Creek website doesn't give an inside jaw spread for the #3 offset, or for any of their long springs.

Indeed, they just say "spread", thanks for updating me. they would serve us better if they gave BOTH inside and outside....guess I'll be contacting them, explaining trappers' needs.

I ask when getting ready to order. MB measured while I waited. I ordered MB650 cast and they were just a bit over state max and had to send them back. MB650 IL fit the bill. Catalog at the time was not definitive.

Our regs for trap size in NC are very clear. They even have diagrams showing how the measurements apply so there is no confusion about length or width. One diagram for foot holds and one for body grips.

This is my states regualtion on trap size: No. 2 Traps
It is unlawful to set on land any trap with a jaw opening any larger than 5.75 inches.
Now can someone clarify inside vs outside spread? Inside being two closest measurements across the jaw? And outside being two farthest, which I’m guessing is dependent on the thickness of the jaws?
And any clue as to what my State is referring to? I would guess inside. Inside.. I go straight across where the dog goes to the opposite jaw (or where the pan hook is for dogless).. That is confusing as all heck because I also read it as "No 2 Traps" as in size aka "A #2 Bridger/Duke/Vic" and was wondering "Gee, I made my #3 Bridgers NY legal (5.75" inside spread also) by adding an inside lam.. Are they legal?".. So I asked. But like ANYTHING regarding trapping, this can vary from one officer to the next (so it seems). Ever see two of them trying to figure out if a trap is legal?? It can be comical so long as you are legal LOL.
They are COYOTES! Not "coy-wolf" not "coyote-wolf hybrid". Just plain old coyote
