I have a batch of rattlesnake lure that been aging and blending since spring from some ideas I got on here and an old recipe. Now I have five big fat fresh ones I want to grind and lightly age for a different type bait they’ve never smelled around here. Anyone care to share a bait recipe or how long to age/lightly taint them and maybe an additive or two? Thanks.

Well, I can't help much there! I made a Rattlesnake based bait this year that I am going to try! I hear Badgers like rattlesnakes!

The batch I have already made was ground and rotted down slowly underground and I brought the smell back a little sweeter with honey and castor. There’s also three other ingredients, gator oil, spoonbill oil and beaver tail oil in there. I am going for a digging reaction. It’s untested as of yet. I have a new trail cam and a spot I’m going to try it when it gets under 95 in a week or two. It has a winning smell to me but I’ll feel better if I actually see animal interest.

I think you will get digging, probably rolling and rubbing too,if they can.No expert here but I have had a batch of prairie rattler aging since last Oct.It smells good to me,by itself, kind of musky, not sour smelling at all.I just skin and gut them, and grind them up fine.Timber rattlers have some small, but great smelling glands on each side of the vent, slightly elongated.Don't miss those.I wish I had a gallon of them.
