What's the preferred method for removing maggots from the lid?

I can't find anything in the meat just right around the top of the lid inside and outside.

Thanks Ken

Are they actually maggots or just a pile of dried out eggs? I get a lot of large clumps of dry fly eggs around the lids of my buckets as well! lol that means your venting system is working. gas gets out fly stay out! Lack of moisture and protein they never hatched. I never fret till I see moving rice in my contents! I chalk that up as a fail

I had eggs around the lid of the tote that the buckets used to be in.
But I actually had really small maggots on the lid of the buckets and just inside.

I was using am air tube with air stones on the end of them but I was worried about flies getting into the bucket so I took those off cut a thin sliced in the lid with a filet knife and then duck taped and old sock over the vent. Seemed to work pretty well. However the maggots are ao small they made their way under the edge of the lid.

I think the flies I saw were more the size of knats. I have not seen maggots this small before.

I have since out the buckets inside of 5g buckets. I will drop them in the freezer when I get home.

I always spray the inside of the lids and the fastening rims with a good insecticide aerosol. This will help you a lot in the future if you have flies that breach your lids some how or the maggots do

As suggested placing the container into a chest freezer for a day or so will kill the maggots. They will crawl to the surface of the bait as the chill penetrates the material and you can easily scrape them out with a spoon or butter knife once it thaws again.

What I do for my bucket for beaver oil is in the lid, I drill a hole for gramet and take a tube about 14" and stick then in the gramet I did wrap a rubber band around the end of the tube that way it have a stop to not slid out and a small rag in the tube. I stuff it in good. When the gas need to leak out it will find it way out and nothing will go past the rag.
