Any advice on how to bed a coil spring in the sand?

Pound bed to size of trap. (no digging)
Bed trap.
Pipe insulation under pan, wire screen cover then sift.

There is several ways to do it. Hope others chime in.

Hern, I didn't think a person could pound sand hard enough to bed a trap. I'll darn sure give it a try

re-invest in double long springs to make it easier and polyfill under the pans.

I would place something UNDER the pan. Sand has a tendency to shift and fill In that void under your pan.

I don't have a lot of sand in my area but I do trap some sandy washes. I usually have dry dirt with me. So I scoop out spot for my trap and then put dry dirt in the bed and finish covering the trap with dry dirt. Then I lightly cover the dirt with sand so it looks like the rest of the area. I have caught several coyotes doing this.

Silky that sounds like it might work the best for me. I'm in the same situation as you, I have about a half dozen spots in a wash I want to set. Tried last year and it didn't work out to good.

SPC, I don't trap in much sand, but this method will work in any soil type including sand. I was taught to use poly-fill under the pan and doubled wax paper under the loose jaw and over the pan with the loose corners of the paper tucked in the top corners. Also you can fill in the voids of a bedded trap with sand, then finish covering with the local soil. This way when it rains the out line of the trap wont be seen. I carry a bucket of sand with me when I am setting. This method will allow the trap to take a lot of rain and continue to work. I also use the loose jaw as a handle and twist the trap in the bed to give a solidly bedded trap.I hope this made sense, if not I can take and post some pics if needed. This has worked well for me.

I trap in mainly sand. I dig my bed a little bigger, then put in a layer of waxed sand. I either use pipe insulation under the pan or coffee filter over pan. I have had good luck with both. Finish with waxed sand over top. Traps bed really good in with waxed sand.

I do not trap much in sand myself. This is what works for me and no problems then my stakes was not long enough,I got that taken care of now.I do this at all my sets for all.I dig my bed like normal and stake my trap in the bed,I cross stake them. Then I put peat moss over that and then set the trap in the bed and then put wax paper over the pan and lift the lose jaw and add more peat moss and then when the jaws is solid when set down then put more peat moss around the trap and make sure it is solid then sift over the pan and then rest of the trap and then take some of the sand that is there and sift it over the bed to blend in. It is hard to make dirt holes but hols off till you have your catch.I use beaver tail oil in the hole and that is it in the hole and gland lure and a shot of urine also.I always have one in the trap when one works the trap, also I use flat sets also in the sand bar. Hope this might help someone.

I’ve got a couple of farms that are sugar sand type soil, and have good luck with a modified Zaggers bedding method. I dig a cone or funnel shaped hole that my 650 just fits in below the surface of the ground. I then use a piece of landscape fabric cut to fit just inside the jaws, between the stiffness of the fabric and the way the trap is made you can now put sand ove the entire trap. The hole is typically about three inches deeper than the bottom of the trap even after putting in an anchor and the chain.

This eliminates the chance for dirt or sand to get under the pan .

Larry the more I play with Zaggers method the more I like it. I’ve not gone that route 100% but seem to be headed that way.
