Time for some new uninsulated bibs for spring and fall , I really like Goretex but am tired of the cabelas stuff wearing out on the bottoms due to my short legs. Is there a place out there that does custom raingear for short legged round guys by short I'm talking a 29 inseam . ANy ideas are appreciated cutting them off with the zipper legs doesn't work

Lol! Lose the zippers, and go with "cut-offs". Sounds like the top end will accommodate the bottom end , even with boots!

I don't wear raingear.I just put dry clothes on at the end of the day.It is brutal in November.I never could stay dry in rainsuits anyway,so I gave up on them.I carry about 6 or 7 pairs of insulated gloves since the hands get too cold in November on the bike trapping with the same pair of wet gloves all day.

If you feel like dopping $1k you can go kuiu or Sitka. I just use hh Impertech.

Well, advise from a rain forest dweller, rubber rules the day, for dry. That said, I hate it, but nothing I have used performs like (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) Hanson for lighter duty, or Grundens for being on the deck of a fishing boat.

Non-breathable HH; of course you'll get damp from perspiration if you are exerting yourself, but you won't get soaked. if you dress with the right stuff underneath it you'll stay pretty dry. It will save your life in hypothermia weather (30-45 degrees), you can always just hunker down and your rain gear will provide you shelter.
I've seen that thousand dollar stuff soak through after being subject to wind driven rain.

He11y Hansen coveralls with obligatory tuck tape patches have been a staple of mine for years. I finish up with warm top layer, and then a North Face rain coat (rubberized as well), for final protection. The hood on the rain coat is essential to keep water from running down neck and keeping dry. Perspiration won't kill you but being soaked might.

like most of you I have the Grundens and or Helly Hanson and like all of you I hate it except when fishing or cutting moose I keep a Grubdens coat in the “ kill bag” for moose along with the knives, saw and bug jacket. I have always used a breathable raingear like Goretex for bird hunting and pretty much everything else was hoping someone out there produced something a guy didn’t have to cut off to make them fit my short legs as I walk a lot of traplines in the fall and use it as much as a wind blocker as anything and walking a few miles at a time in rubber is not an option to much sweat then cool down too fast and get cold Sitka is an option but only if I can get it in a inseam that I won’t be walking on the ends otherwise I will just wear out like any other stuff do they do a custom fit like Simms does their waders? if so it would be worth it to me to check into it

I have been using neoprene waist waders with the boot foot and have found old sneaker type boots to work well. I wear a pair of Cordova chaps over then to protect picks in brushy areas otherwise just go with the waders.
5mm neoprene hold up the best.

Otterman, have you checked with Nomar in Homer? They make clothing and all kinds of stuff and do custom work and repairs. If you have a brand and style of rain gear you like except for the length, I'm sure they would cut them down and put in new zippers to the proper length. They do very good work, but they do charge for it accordingly. Just search for nomar homer, or call them at 1-800-478-8364 if it's something you want to try.

+1 for HH Impertech. I took the stuff to POW deer hunting last year and loved it, yeah I was still wet at the end of the day from sweat but less wet than I would have been in gore-tex or nothing.

I fall into your category and I've been happy with my Kryptek Poseidon. The full length zippers are really nice. Quick on and off without taking off your boots.

They are really comfortable compared to my Impertechs. In fact, I hate the Impertechs only because they are the same flexible material like they used to be.

Have you thought about breathable waders with some really good wader boots. Simms makes waders that fit to your size and shape. I can fish/hunt in them all day.

Spek thanks I'll take a look Kusko, Thanks for the link I will check them out, as for the waders I have them but I have a love hate relationship with waders and I certainly am not hiking in them the amount of miles I hike during our fall trapping while waiting for snow and ice .

Like others said, for a serious weatherproof layer I wear the heavy Grundens, He11y or Guy Cotton bibs. If I want something lighter weight for walking, some cheaper waist-height “splash pants” work when it’s damp out, but they won’t hold up to a lot of brush. For jackets, I have a Grundens Gage semi-breathable soft shell jacket that I love. I can work in it all day in drizzle and be MOSTLY dry and comfortable.

I love my gage deck boss bibs for more high abrasive situations. They're awesome as shells in winter too with fleece pants underneath. Otherwise for total waterproofness I would go with the neptune stuff by grundens. A great place to shop is www.lfsmarineoutdoor.com
