Those that trap out of season nuisance beavers, either as an agent or landowner: do you find buyers for beaver caught at such times when fur isn't prime? (Obviously if it's it out of season, the fur won't be prime).

Here our season runs from Oct 5 to May 15 for beaver.Beavers just before or after season can be well worth skinning. Some beaver caught in late May will have a good pelt, although the majority will not.You need to be able to grade them to decide which are worth skinning and which are not. Some will be saleable, and a few may be useful for your own use if you are so inclined.Same as just before the season starts.Beaver in the summer are not worth skinning for any reason, except maybe if you want to make leather.

Not legal to keep in Michigan if you are an ADC operator
But..... I understand new regulations may allow it on permits issued for individual nuisance beaver permits
And I have had to toss some nice April pelts because of it, and that is frustrating

That's ridiculous cause those same jerks would give you a ticket for wanton waste! Splitting hairs in my eyes. the meat and castors would still be useful. or as troy said leather. any use would be better than just rotting in my eyes!

Yep. I have to toss a lot of critters because of our regulations.
Hope the new regulation for individual permits adds ADC operators too. Soon

Thanks. A beaver caught now would have good castor I would think. And the tails should always be marketable. So I guess even if the fur isn't worth much, the animal might still have some value.

Castor is worth saving for sure and the carcass is valuable as bait.Dont know about the tails though.Sometimes there is a market for the tails for leather but not always.

I have used tail chunks tainted for a cast bait for snaring but I don't have time or inclination to make oil out of them. How much does the tail oil sell for?

If your charging enough to do the job then It's all a mote point. Cut out the castors and oil sacs and toss the beaver. Trying to save them for bait will become a head ache do to the room they would take up. I do skin a few, dry the hides and then cut them In to 2" squares and use the patches for lure holders and for sight appeal at your sets. If your charging less then $50.00 per beaver and at least a $100.00 set up fee your just shorting your self.
If they won't pay the price walk away.

I got a 2nd beaver today on the current project I'm on, helping a local farmer. I'm not a fur grader, but the fur seems ok now. 'Course we are in October now...
He wasn't willing to pay $50/beaver, but is trying to make it worth my time. it was an opportunity I didn't want to pass up. That new freezer I bought is getting some use anyway. Better than watching that boring Packer game today.

I save all the tails and caster's no matter what. Right now I'm skinning beaver to sell. Most look pretty good. (At least for the hatter market now). Saving beaver meat for bait too
Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine!
