A neighbor of mine uses his 110s & 330s with no chains. It seems his stabilizing method is to use natural wood sticks (heavy duty) that he gathers in the wild (with shims). Seems unconventional. He says it never fails him.

He apparently don't do allot of otter trapping! ive had otters and beavers take off in 330s using rebar to support them! it disheartening to find a beaver in a otter set 20-30 yards down stream dead on the high bank! I tie off all my conis now! It may not happen often but once is enough to change my tactics.

I agree all mine used to be rigged like this ring removed replaced with crunch proof swivel then 5' #2 chain since then im all cable on my big conis 8' 1/8" with a cable swivel terminating them! I don't believe cable tangles as badly as chain does! Time will tell! Only way I found the above mentioned beaver my dog found it and alerted me! Hard to cut tracks in moving water

My 160s are cabled directly to the welded support stands for each one. I use these for coon and mink in tight trail spots along creeks. I swiveled mine too.

Me too - found a 330 about 30yds downstream around 5 years ago with a big stick catch!!
I secure them a lot better these days. Chains with heavy wire to something substantial. I like using exposed roots - big ones!

Im a firm believer in big conis being anchored caught two beavers by the back foot ! Thank goodness they both had a t-bar stake holding them. Shawnee you cant beat the holding power of a root

For all my coni's I wire or cable them off to something solid.I use rebar to anchor or there is a tree or anything that I know will not be pull away.I also use support that I know will be pull away and some that will not.unless a otter pull it all up but will not go far with it tie off to something solid.I do use the long 330 H support and also made some short ones. but still tie off to something solid. If it is 110 I still tie off.

8' of cable on my 330s and 280s.
All my H stands have 16" of round stock welded to the center of the H frame. The legs are cut off at 5 1/2" The leg length determines my body grip height and the rod Is my stake. Place the rod through the trap chain ring. Hammer In your stake then place the trap on the H stand as your setting It.

I use about six feet of cable, and stake so that the beaver or otter ends up dying out of the run. Unless its on a tall H-stand, then I just stake the cable where ever is convenient.

I have always used a 16ga wire attached to the spring hole or end of chain. I do not use conibears that close like a belile. I found 14 ga breaks too easy.

I only use 330's for beaver and otter. If you use wire on a Belile, a smaller trap, have a greater than 24hr check and set worn out traps it is best to use cable or chain.

I found when I ran a long line every day for 90 days straight, 80 plus hours a week a simple easily replaced 16ga wire was best for me. If I had a situation I thought required more, I just added a wire.

I can,t say no animals broke the wire, just that it was the fastest way for me to cover my areas and reduce the animals that were destroying property.

I have tried cable but it was harder for me to adjust to the multitude of sets at the different locations than with a simple wire.

I agree with Kirk.Wire for me too.Wire is cheap and fast.
The only time I had wire broke was when a bear decided he wanted the beaver.

Rendezvous is that a trap ring you got on your spring eye? I ask because I do some thing similar. I cut 1/4 " wide pieces of 1.25 sch 80 pipe then drill a 1/8 " hole for a j hook cut the pipe and open it to go over spring then close it and spot weld shut. using cable I want good swiveling

It looks like a tear drop ring. They're very handy.

I don't know how wire can be faster then cable. And for the most part cable Is for ever. Fold In the springs wrap the cable around jaws and springs then drag the cable through the spring eye and your good to go. I have a safety pin type fastener on the tag end. Just make a wrap around something and lock the connector on the cable and your good to go.
