I don't know how wire can be faster then cable. And for the most part cable Is for ever. Fold In the springs wrap the cable around jaws and springs then drag the cable through the spring eye and your good to go. I have a safety pin type fastener on the tag end. Just make a wrap around something and lock the connector on the cable and your good to go.

When you set the trap to tie the wire (at the location of set) you don,t have to unwind the wire, the cable you do. To remove trap to another location you just cut the wire and go. With cable you have to wrap the cable so as not to get tangled up and take time getting untangled. With wire you pull, if it is tangled you just cut wire and go. If wire needs to be longer you just put another one on. Just throw trap in back and go.

You carry in 5 or 6 traps it really makes a difference in weight as well as time.

With wire it is also easier to adjust where the beaver will end up after he is caught.

I couldn't trust the long term integrity of wire even # 9 gets brittle. I even get uneasy attaching with wire. I have a buddy that lost a 330 belise and otter using #9 to secure his traps after 3/4 mile he lost its trail in a deep pool.Never to be seen again. To each there own but I believe I will stick with cable or chain. Bad caught otters fight hard! If you've never had a bad caught one wait it can and will happen!

I change out springs when they get weak, and never had a problem having caught thousands of beaver and hundreds of otters tieing off with wire.
When trapping its best to keep things simple.Wire is something that has multiple uses on the trapline. No need to burden youself with extra "stuff".
If your trapping out of the back of a truck it is less of a problem carrying around a hardware store of "stuff"

so those of you that use wire just wrap It up when pulling traps and toss It aside?
So now we need to be carrying a wire reel on our belt. And you need a wire cutter.

With the cable attached to your trap there Is no need to pull out 6 or 7 feet of wire and then tie It to your trap then stretch It out to your tie off point and then tie It off. I guess I just don't see the advantage of using wire over cable on wet sets with body grips.

And the main reason for not using wire Is that as soon as you get within 5' of a roll of wire you will have holes In your gloves. LOL

I only change wire at the beginning of the year, and only if it needs changing.Wire on strong bodygrips lasts for ages, most times the beaver expires right in front of the trapset.Even with cable if you only have a tuft of swampgrass or a handful of dogwood to tie off to you will have to use wire.Wire has hundreds of uses on the line, cable tie offs not much use for anything else, and not as versatile as wire even for the intended purpose of tieing off a trap.
I don't wear gloves when setting traps.
Face it beav, you don't trap like we do.To each their own.

The only place I wouldn't use wire is a live holding device, but I don't use many of those. 99% of sets I make for all animals is a lethal set.

I have #2 machine chain on all my BGs with swivels next to the spring with a universal at the stake end. Never have liked wire.

Common sense catches alot of fur..

Same here wire isn't faster than a quick link made into a adjustable loop. I attach alot of mine like they do dps! I agree boco different situations call for different solutions
