Work well to attract coons? I think it would, but I have bears in the area so am leary to use it.

Smoke is a universal attractant to all animals in my experience watching them work it. I agree with Sniper. If I went back to baiting I would use the smoke oil. The liquid smoke itself evaporates too quickly. Coons will maul each over trying to get it, but your bears are also going to like it.

Just add Glycerin to the Liquid smoke and it stays.

Same as urine.

Smoke oil...hmmm. Is that a trapping product, or something I'd look for at WalMart in the food aisle?

You can buy bottles of the stuff in most any grocery store near the BBQ Sauce/Hot Sauce area. I like to add a bit to my BBQ Sauce.

Smoke Oil is good stuff, beware a little is enough, you can easily overdue it if you use to much of the good stuff.

If I uncover a pan of smoked meat my dog will get up from a dead sleep and be by my side in an instant.

I see what you're talking about Wade.
That link says it works on canines too.

Yes I have hundreds of trail camera pictures of coyotes, cats, and foxes checking out my bait stations. I also have seen in the snow, and on camera over DPS coyotes working them when I used smoke as a bait mixed with dog food. I made the mistake of spraying the smoke on some soybeans that had not been harvested yet one year, and the coons took out 2 rows of beans for 10 feet. Smoke is one of those scents that will get a fast response to your site from multiple different fur bearers I have tried a number of other things in the past including rotting fish. Smoke generally gets animals there the first night out. Straight skunk would be my second pick on an attractor, but the smoke seems to bring in the coons better.

Agreed. Regardless of how potent it is, your ingredient list or base material could wipe that odor out or tone it down quite a bit in a matter of hours. I've used both smoke oil and liquid smoke from the store for testing. If you have raccoon in the area they'll show up for a visit using either one. jmo

I Don't have a specific ratio. I just dump some in personally. Some guys will add as much as 33% to urine. I never added this much, personally...but maybe if you're trapping the desert...or super dry western states, more would be better.
Glycerin Keeps it all from evaporating on the hot/dry days. Don't have much issue on a normal fall day this far up alone, however. I add it to my urine, though, Keeps it there longer.

Don't get the little bottles you buy at the grocery store. That stuff is alcohol based. Evaporates in minutes. Need to add glycerin if you do have some to use up.

Cumberlands sells Liquid smoke for a whopping $11 a gallon ($6 a half gallon I think). A gallon of this stuff goes a LONG way...as John says, careful about overpowering other odors (if you're using other odors). It's powerful stuff. But the coon love it.

And liquid smoke doesn't mix with fish oil. You just get two separates in your squirt bottle....but shake it up before squirting and it still works just fine. Doesn't take much smoke to overpower the fish oil smell though. I think you're wasting fish oil in reality....and the smoke seems to work better (at a much cheaper rate) anyhow.
