For those of you that have done it, which is best? Catch pole or plywood? Or something else?

From what Iv'e gathered they use a long catch all pole, the model that control agents use. And they don't attempt it alone. Maybe Gulo will chime in.. Or the guys from Minnesota..

A good friend of mine releases a few every year and all he use's Is a catch pole. He tells me wolves are not all that aggressive. I'm not to sure about that.

I have a catch pole and plywood, but if I get an incidental wolf my 1st choice will be to call DNR. They're looking to collar some in my area.

In my limited experience some are relatively passive others NOT SO.

Each individual wolf can be different as day and night. Some submissive and some very aggressive. The only wolf I release is a dead one,but if by law I had to release one I would make sure it was unconscious first.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Been told usually not an issue unless you try to release the alpha male. They apparently don't run away from you...but at you.

I usually release at least 2 or 3 every year in my fox / coyote sets and have done so for very many years. As has been said, vast majority are pretty docile in that they retreat to end of chain with tail tucked between their legs; easily released with my 5 ft. catch pole. However, every once in awhile you can come across an alpha male and that is an entirely different animal; tail arched high, aggressive, lunging out at you, bites the catch pole, etc. Still releasable but takes a lot longer. I admire the animal but we definitely need a season back in Mn.

Yes if you are releasing two or three a year from your fox/coyote sets I agree you need a season on them.

As long as you're just releasing them from a coyote/cat size trap that can be manipulated by hand you can probably get away with a catch pole and maybe a piece of rope and some foul language. Good thing s is you don't have to worry about the claws on the other 3 feet like a cat. Most of the ones I've caught have been surprisingly docile, tail tucked and submissive. Exception last year was a big alpha male that wanted to eat me. I'm not sure how I would have gone about letting it go. He got "set free" instead.

Lots of growl'n, hiss'n, spit,n and climb'n any tree or bush around - they are a pain but are gorgeous animals!

Cool vid - thanks for sharing it with us!!
