Just curious... since most fur isn't worth spit, what do you consider to be the best value in terms of what you can sell it for vs. the cost of gear and time invested in putting up?

I already have gear for all the furbearers in my area, but think my coon gear was the cheapest. The yotes are the best fur around here at this time, but I would think a fella could catch and put up coon 4 to 1 in the same time. This would make the coon pay better. I do not have many rats around, but if you have large numbers of rats they are super quick and easy, so a lot of cheap easy furs will out way a few higher dollar pelts.
Bottom line is catch what you enjoy catching. The joy that comes with trapping is the best pay. I enjoy killin yotes so that is my target and the few big coon that always seem to find my yote sets are a welcome bonus.

Planning to run a mixed line for so long as I'm able. Just curious about the numbers for the sake of conversation.

I fully agree with everything stated here. The only difference is- I have plenty of muskrats. A dozen 110 BG's, a dozen #1-#1.5 footholds, and a handful of colony traps= money in the bank!

For me, beaver is king..lol
80 to $120 for a tanned fur.sell to friends and private buyers.
I beetle clean the skulls and sell for $20-25
Castors and oil sacs are a few bucks
I can sell the carcass for $20/ea
I keep the tails and feet as misc trapping bait. Guts go in the wolf bait pile.
The circle of life carries on..

Wolves can fetch $4-500 which isnt too bad but require alot of effort to catch one.
My cost of doing business has a better return numbet for beavers compared to wolves.

Iv'e always been a multispecies trapper, but concentrate most effort on canines. I set dps and 220s for coon on the same permissions and if water is present mink, beaver and muskrats to pay for gas. You have to be dedicated to make it work especially with daily check laws and working a full time job.
