Victor Montgomery 3&4’s is all I use for K-9’s. The only thing I do to them is baseplate them and file a square notch on the pan to increase pan tension. Also I laminated the jaws.

Can one of you guys post a picture of the notch? Thanks here is a picture I found on this site. Just file a square notch just above where the slope begins.

I think you can buy the Montana #3's already baseplated and laminated for the price of the unmodified monties can't you?

Baseplated and laminated w/ 4 coil $217 Baseplated and laminated w/o 4 coil $212 I spent $188 buying the offset without these and purchasing the extra swivels and baseplates to add on my self.

I know the Montana traps are good traps. But there also made in China! I'll stick with my America made victor-montgomery's. I enjoyed laminated and base plated my own! Just curious, what kind of pan tension are you getting by filing that notch? I use strictly Victor Montgomery for K9 and mine run between 4 and 5lbs. of tension. If you want less, just slightly slope it more upward..

I've made that statement on are Missouri forum and was ate up with hateful comments (by the same people telling me to buy MB 550) or by the people claiming its cheaper to buy Dukes and modify them

Personally I don't feel bad buying foreign made traps, as our fur industry is supported mostly by Chinese and Russian buyers as I understand it. Different story when it comes to my other hobbies though, try to buy American when I can there.
